Re: AA Q1 2019 Results

Delta doesn't just have competition free hubs by accident. Atlanta has long had rival carriers attempting to build hubs there. Delta has fought them off. Southwest back 15-20 years ago was much bigger in SLC. Delta fought them off. Detroit had Spirit in their old business model. Northwest fought th...

Re: AA Q1 2019 Results

Just finished listening to the call. Interesting commentary that the Pacific was the best performing entity led by Hong Kong & Japan outperforming both Atlantic & Latin. China improved too with code-shares to interior China out of PEK/PVG on CZ. Finally AA is making profits in the Pacific a...

Re: UA EWR-EZE Route Performance

American owns Argentina. I would never consider UA or DL. DL has issues all the time and with only 1 flight a day they have no wiggle room for any MX issues. Let's remember that the only reason UA added EWREZE was because the VPs at Network Planning (many ex-AA) knew how well AA did on that route. ...

Re: AA retaliates against NK, ups frequencies on CLT-BWI/FLL/MCO/EWR, plans more growth

Given AA's reaction to Y4 adding GDL-CLT, this move hardly comes as a surprise. After all, surely NK is a far greater threat to AA's CLT operation than Y4 is... AA's reaction to Y4 shows you the stupidity of their strategy. They thought they were going to scare them away from CLT. Y4 did not blink ...

Re: Volaris to start Durango, Mexico to Dallas in June

I would have to assume this flight will be much heavier marketed to Mexicans rather than Americans, given the airline. Having said that, it almost looks like an experimental run of an extra plane that would otherwise be sitting and not doing anything. Why not do a test run of the market? Does DFW h...

Re: Doug and AA

While the OP is slightly sensational - the stock has tanked, and AA just forecasted RASM down again last week. Almost a year ago, we heard they were going to try and raise fares to combat rising fuel costs. Fuel ended up going back down, but it appears AA is still more than willing to get involved ...

Mostly because they are a bunch of idiots. They could not make a route work where they had a monopoly. Heard they could not get good yields anywhere (go figure)

Re: What was American Like Before the Merger

The merger really ruined the greatness of AA. AA was forced to take the approaches of an LCC airline and apply those in the daily operations of a premium carrier. I am not talking about cost-saving initiatives, I am taking revenue dilution (lousy RM decisions) to network, marketing, and customer ser...

After you see how much airlines are losing in Cuba you'll understand how this is a blessing in disguise for them. This provides them with an out saving face.

Re: Another AA leader leaves for UA

Many people within AA had expected for a while for this to happen. When he was demoted everyone noticed that he had lost interest in the business. He also did not understand what made AA great in the first place and his decisions were made using the WWDD method (what would Delta do). I expect great ...
