I must say that Buy on Board is fine for real short haul. However when you have a 6 hrs plus flight then you actually are 9 hours or more from available eating . If they want to offer BOB then maybe they need to graduate the offers depending on the flight duration. Standard up to 2 hours More choice...

I personally do not think you have time to go " downtown" with the risk of the train being late and missing your flight. You would then be responsible to get another ticket!
Why not just book a lounge and enjoy the airport.

What about the Nonstop flight with TCX? Not your real business class but. Nonstop/Large seats/Good food/free drinks etc and, of course a quick flight time. Regulars travellers in Business on the world airlines have told me that, for the money it is good service and a comfortable flight.

I recommend travelling to Heathrow direct from gatwick by bus and check your bags in, then take the tube to Central London free of worries and it is an easy trip and cheap as well with a travelcard .
