Re: Dash 8 - 400 life duration

I have worked on both the Q400 and ATR 72 in maintenance, I don't remember what the airframe life is but 80k sounds about right. If they are like the Dash 8 classic, then at 80k there is an expensive check that can be done that takes it to 120k. I don't know what it is for the ATR but I don't think ...

I like Olights, I have several of them. At the moment I carry a Baton Pro. It uses an 18650 cell and puts out 2000 lumens on it's high setting. 1) Speculation: What could have caused this in the first place? Hot brakes? If the axle nut was left at initial/seat torque value rather than final during the previous tire change, this can happen. Lol, I don't doubt it, some meathead on the tire change. Another possible cause of bearings destroyin...

Funny enough, two or three years ago I was on an Air Canada Express flight on a DC8-100 and we had a few sparks on take off, too, without losing the wheel though. Upon landing, more sparks. The Shocks seemed to be worn out, as well, since the bottom part of the MLG scraped the runway upon touchdown...

Engines have life limited components that must be tracked. They have modifications, service bulletins/ letters, AD's etc. that are done to them that must be noted somewhere. Engines don't always stay with the same airframe, they could be leased on loan a rental or bought and sold outright etc.

The Q400's apu is better.
