No, the original poster was correct. The airlines based their staffing planning and needs on what the CDC and other experts predicted for air travel, which was people being shy about flying for up to 3 years after the pandemic slows due to trauma and financial hardship, or possible re-surges. While this should have never happened airlines need to study what the underlying reasons are for incidents like this. They should do this so that they can take preventative measures so that situations like this don't happen as much, and passengers can have a much better experience.

If there is no breathalyzer test before taking the wheel of your car/truck, I don't see how there could be one to be a plane passenger. Even if Boeing has a backlog of 737 orders I am sure many will get cancelled. Because of the pandemic the airlines financial situation has changed dramatically. Boeing is at it's best when they listen to the needs of their customers. Such as Southwest needing a new generation of 737? Very much so.
