It is an electrically powered hydraulic pump. It is used for closing the cargo doors. (Some people refer to the 'Barking dog' in the hold...because it sounds a bit like a dog... (very strange one then anyway Big grin )

All I can tell you is that Thomas Cook airlines (Belgium) still has smoking flights if flight time exceeds 3hrs. I guess it will be the same for Condor. Although it has been decided that from the summer season on, ALL flights will be non-smoking!

As David posted, the latest Metar (actual weather report) shows very thick fog with general visibility around 100m (10h50L). That's probably why the helicopters can't land at the site... might as well be one of the causes of the accident.

My thoughts go to pax, friends and their families
