Any indication when a decision would be made by US DOT about the remaining slots for South Africa service, between UA's IAD-CPT and Delta's ATL-CPT applications? I'm sure they'd like to get these routes loaded for booking asap and get it started by November at the latest?Jump to post
SYD-CPT gets mentioned now and then also as part of this project...however is this a real possibility? Also why necessary would this be that more different than SYD-JNB, which is actually a little bit longer than SYD-CPT, which would suggest that B789 could also do it, or is it too far south for ET...Jump to post

The only spare widebody capacity right now is in 5 parked former TAM A332 frames TC-JIO/JIP/JIS/JIT/LOH, all of which could reasonably be brought back seeing as how their sisterships TC-JIR/JIZ/LOI are active and could replace A333 capacity on mid-haul flights into African and central Asia, which i...Jump to post
South Africa should be seeing further changes in the market in 2022, as things improve and become more stable. SAA is downsized a lot and will probably be a small player in the market for quite a while, with only 3 A319, 2 A320 and 1 A330-300 left in the fleet now. Mango is most likely not going to ...Jump to post
Does anyone know how Zambia Airways is performing? Is the partnership with ET working better than with Malawian? I think they're only doing domestic flights at the moment, LUN-NLA and LUN-LVI. Hopefully this will work out for both, potential for mini-hub via LUN with routings that can be mostly sho...Jump to post

Looking at the DL201 history and schedule on both Flightradar24 and Flightaware, it appears to me that the frequency of this service has been increased marginally (and very recently?) to 5 times weekly. For those in the know, is this a temporary adjustment or is there a Delta announcement about a f...Jump to post
Latest TK news: -TK grounds 6 x 321s, 4 x 321NEOs due to low demand -Due to high COVID cases, TK suspends flights to Brazil, S.Africa, Nepal and Sri Lanka. This was probably just a misinformation. Any indication when they are planning to resume service to JNB as mentioned? Is everything sorted on the South African side, to prevent what happened before, when a plane was seized? While there is value in the curated news and information this site has the Pro level subscription price is outrageous . So like you no, can't update. Any indication whether the loads on EWR-JNB is still holding strong, since South Africa was changed back to level 4 travel advisory...although it doesn't seem that deters US tourists that much?
Also with DL starting ATL-JNB this weekend, no significant impact on UA?
Any indication what forward bookings looks like for EWR-JNB starting next week? Is it still starting with daily flights, or has it been reduced? While I understand there is still a lot of restrictions on travelers from South Africa, with exceptions, I don't quite understand the rule for vaccinated t...Jump to post
SAA's LCC subsidiary Mango is set to suspend flights from 1 May...all flights have been zero'd out. Not looking good. On the other hand, maybe this tempts some others to try their luck. EK or TK, perhaps? I doubt about EK. They didn't even try when there seemed no limit to their expansion plans. TK certainly does seem a good candidate, they are proud to be the airline with the most destinations. I wonder, so many ...Jump to post
Who is going to be left flying domestic routes in Namibia? There is WestAir which operates mainly scheduled services regionally on WDH-JNB and WDH-CPT, plus then one domestic scheduled route from Windhoek's other airport Eros to Ondangwa (ERS-OND). They operate ERJ145. Further on as charter service...Jump to post
Air Namibia did not have more domestic than international...but they did have more domestic than intercontinental...the table is in 3 categories. I guess the West African airlines want to grab the opportunity while SAA is seemingly out of the picture. By April 2021 the market should be better again we can hope. SAA Technical has now withdrawn services to SAA due to unpaid bills. This will potentially ground the few flights that SAA are operating, freight and repatriation. From that article it doesn't state that EK is actually interested...just that they had discussions regarding the codeshare.
Ethiopian's interest is more possible, and in fact, I wouldn't mind if they get involved in a way.
And Safair isn’t really a good alternative ... pretty old 737-400s with dated interior. Had them too often and they aren’t fun. FlySafair have 738s as well. According to FR24 schedules, SAA is scheduled to do flights to SYD and BNE in the next week or so, with A346.
Will this still be for repatriation of Aussie citizens from SA, or other way around, repatriation of South African citizens from Australia?
Not a regular scheduled flight...but this past weekend CemAir of South Africe did a repatriation flight, collecting stranded South Africans along the way through West Africa...all the way from Morocco to South Africa...routing CMN-NKC-OUA-ABJ-PNR-JNB, with CRJ900Jump to post

QF7025 is currently en-route MEL-JNB, with 789 VH-ZND (Yam Dreaming). Taking quite a southern routing, although maybe not as far south as the 744s go.
It also looks like CPT-PER with SAA will in fact be operating tonight, with A346 ZS-SNC (Star Alliance livery).
According to FR24 it looks like a flight is scheduled by SAA to operate CPT-PER with A346 on 25 April, for repatriation of Aussie citizens.
On SAA site it also gives information of a prospective flight (JNB-CPT-PER)
A few multi-leg trips I've done, mostly due to it being reasonably better priced, but also to catch certain aircraft types. Mango has applied for quite a few international rights over the last few weeks, probably taking over some from SAA. I think also if SA was to axe PER-JNB given its current dire financial straits, PER and QF would both have vastly increased motivation to work things out so that QF could launch its own PER-JNB service ASAP.
