flew with NZ to FRA a couple of times. The flights I was on were 90-100% full, at least down the back. They were a cheap option for Germans travelling to LAX and v.v. Had some nice German FAs btwn FRA-LAX. Pity the NZ staff at LAX aren't so good.
Jump to postMine was on 01/02/02, supposedly the startup date for Tesna's failed Ansett. AN330 ADL-MEL and return later that evening (sorry, forgotten the Flight No, lets call it AN3xx). The return flight was almost 100% full. I am glad my last Ansett flight was full of pax and a subsequently very happy crew. I...
Jump to postI have known about the CGK-DJJ flight on GA for a while now and it is one of my *dream* flights that I would love to take. It sounds pretty good. People are starting to warm to Garuda Indonesia more and more these days. Good on them. Indonesia needs a stronger economy, and Garuda being strong can on...
Jump to postIkarus - on Ansett, the A320s were a lot more comfortable than 733s, believe me! Although I would love to see A320s in Australian skies again (preferably with a starmark livery!! <img src="/discussions/graphics/smile.gif" ALT="Smile">), and it would offer the public a definite difference (visua...
Jump to post"Virgin Blue, founded by British-based Sir Richard Branson 18 months ago, would now be regarded as an Australian airline, freeing restrictions to fly to New Zealand, Fiji, Noumea, Bali and Indonesia."
Since when was Bali not a part of Indonesia? Jeez, journos these days...
Can't see Virgin Blue linking up with Garuda Indonesia...Garuda has a frequent flyer programme!
(hehe). Virgin's found its niche and should stick with it. They're successful right now, why change? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
For the next few years we're going to have a duopoly me thinks - until someone comes along again to try to take on the Qantas monster. Virgin Blue will become very healthy financially, and they don't need to change their product. Both businesses will be very safe for the next few years. Remember Qan...
Jump to postI agree that everyone should stop their whinging - FLEW have a business to run, and have invested millions upon millions of dollars to create a business model that they are confident will change an airline losing millions a week to an airline making a decent profit - now obviously they cannot do tha...
Jump to postWirraway - what about the loss to retailer at the Ansett terminal since September!!!
Jump to postFinally! Some constructive discussion on Ansett - I've been trying to avoid the discussion on A.net about AN lately because the discussions are just pointless. Anyway, I believe this has been raised before. This would be a good idea, and SYD would be second in the world after Miami (I believe, pleas...
Jump to postdagnamit! I just wrote quite a long post about this, but it disappeared. Anyway, what we have to remember here is that the Ansett that has ordered these Airbuses will (hopefully!) be Tesna, and hence a totally different airline to the temporary one that is currently operating.
Jump to postthanks! fantastic to read a positive trip report on Garuda Indonesia - a pity that Amsterdam will be its on European gateway for the next few months.
Jump to postI read it earlier but didn't post a reply. After all, we've been expecting something like this all along...let's hope they survive the dogfight that will soon be in Australian skies, and come out on top. If they can break even with 25% market share, I can't see how this could not happen! <img s...
Jump to postPosted by Miami1: "nusantara means 'passage/track or bridge' " This is not true. 'Nusantara' in bahasa Indonesia is another word for Indonesia, or the Indonesian archipelago. And once again: Lufthansa means Air League, Hansa can also be traced to the seaside towns of Northern Europe that were part o...
Jump to postAirnondo- Ansett's logo shouldn't be blinking much longer - the new owners (well, soon to be) have signed a deal and the new Ansett will be a full Star Alliance member.
Jump to postLufthansa- "Hansa" in German can mean "league", so Lufthansa would mean "air league". In Germany it is also often called "die deutsche Lufthansa", meaning the German air league. Ansett Australia- named after Sir Reginald Ansett, who founded Ansett Airways 65 or so years ago. Has in it's history also...
Jump to postWow, that really is a blow for Garuda Indonesia and tourism in Indonesia.
Jump to postGreat report! Ich freue mich wahnsinnig auf den nächsten Teil! Where did you stay in Munich? While I was there I stayed at a hostel called "4 u München" - quite a nice little hostel, but packed with Aussies, and only around the corner from the Hauptbahnhof. I must also say that I enjoy flying on the...
Jump to postAnsett have immediately announced a replacement for Jenson, Captain Rindfleish, from the position below TJ. Mr Rindfleish has 27 years of experience at Ansett and as such there should be no problem. If Jenson had no interest in Ansett (well, he obviously didn't by defecting to QF), then good on him ...
Jump to postgood report mate! can't wait for the next parts
Jump to postoops...forgot DPS-FRA/LGW/AMS is via BKK/SIN
Jump to postI look forward to the trip report Alex!
Baec777 - Why would you fly QF from ADL to Europe when you need to have three flights, even the ADL-SIN flight is via DRW thesedays. Rather fly SQ, MH or even GA(PremiumEconomy ) and have one stop.
On Monday Gate Gourmet at ADL was open and Gate Gourmet trucks were being towed into the airport (must've been in storage somewhere else), presumably for use as of 01/02.
Jump to postthanx for the report- just booked ADL-MEL-ADL on Feb 1 with Ansett. Here's hoping that Tesna get approval at the creditors meeting! It'll be good to be on the first AN MkIII flight out of ADL.
Jump to postAt least everyone was aware of Ansett when the ads started, and I think it did lift their image, although the media often played on the "Am I with Ansett? Absolutely!" catchphrase. I just hope their new marketing campaign will bring about as much awareness as the old one. (although I doubt it will c...
Jump to postphew......well, i dunno about you guys, but that was a good read! i guess i'll go ahead and book my flight...show my support for Ansett!
This sort of stuff also scares away customers like me Will it be safe for me to book a flight for 1/02??
Is this a serious threat to stopping Ansett MkIII? The unions can certainly pull a lot of weight. Why hasn't Tesna done anything about this important issue?
Jump to postmb - it certainly would be interesting to see if there are any literal overnight changes!
Jump to postThey're gonna have to at least give back some of the points, even the administrators have admitted this (or so I remember from an interview). And Fox/Lew have said that they will be relying quite heavily on the Star Alliance membership for international connections. I am very seriously looking at fl...
Jump to postBeen upgraded once on AirNZ transpacific service because my seat in Y was also assigned to another passenger. The FA had to choose which one of us to upgrade - the other passenger was a slob dressed in a tracksuit, I'd dressed nicely. Guess who got the upgrade and a once in a lifetime (well, hopeful...
Jump to postYyz717- The major problem with Ansett's image was its old aircraft, especially the 767s, which the media here often reported were the "oldest in the world" and that Ansett's entire fleet was "amongst the oldest" (a load of codswallop). So a brand new fleet is crucial, and they should have it by the ...
Jump to postEven with AN MkII, the thing people love about Ansett is the staff (there are so many testaments to this!), so I don't think they'll mind much if the aircraft interiors are a little different!
Jump to postThere's a photo of it on the YSSY board - can confirm it is Korean Air Cargo. What a sight!
Jump to postI think in all seriousness that the planned fleet of A319/A320/A321s is perfect for now. Maybe some A330s in the LONG term.
Jump to postAgree with the above two posts. I love the Ansett Australia name and Starmark logo. They just need a good marketing campaign, actually highlighting their product advantages over QF/DJ and a good FF programme.
Jump to postAgree on the Ansett Enya ads - especially the one when they launched their 747 international services way back when.
Jump to postgreat to hear loads are up. read on a trip report that there were SYD-BNE flights with only 1 seat left. Great news!
Considered JAL? They're normally pretty cheap, reportedly have great food and you get a stopover or two on the way.
Jump to postPprune...honestly, having that word mentioned here should be worthy enough to have this post deleted.
