Sorry to bring up a 4-day old thread, :p, but I’ve read that the early KLM -200B’s had the JT9D-7W fitted. -7W? I’ve heard of the -7 and -7A. But what is the -7W? Is it the 45,500lb -7 with the water injection? If so, why didn’t they get fitted with the more powerful-7A if it was available? I think...

And no there is no way to make it easier. Remove wings plus vertical and horizontal stabs. It’s been done before and makes move much simpler. Apparently not required in this case. Yeah you are absolutely right..It has been done before with another KLM 747 here in Holland. They removed the wings etc...
