Re: Boston Aviation - 2024

When airlines in E board via bus, is there a dedicated gate that they'll do it from? Also, what is E1A used for? (the gate with no jetbridge) Is this where the DL shuttle from A drops off? If so that's still a long walk to E13-E16 Used to be E8A which was a stairway/elevator next to E8. Then for a ...

Well E10-12 are mainly BA, EK and LH due to lounges and aircraft. DL seem to be taking the new gates. (E13-16) B6 tend to get preferential treatment on E1-3 (C5-7) in the am I believe. Although have seen them on E4 too in the past 2. As FGITD notes above, certain gates can only take certain aircraf...

Re: British Airways turns 50 years old

I like how many are quick to point to 1974, but ignore the fact that the name British Airways, pre-dates this. The name was originally used in 1935. British Airways we know today is the result of various Acts of Parliament that merged, split and merged various British airline companies. Mergers of ...

Yes, most international airlines use E for both arrivals and departures, however, all international arrivals have to arrive in E as it is the only terminal with customs facilities (-cities like DUB, SNN, AUA with pre-clearance facilities). Why is Speedbird BA's callsign? From the BOAC Speedbird logo. I believe it was BOAC's callsign for that reason and it was what the merged entity of British Airways adopted. It was asking a rhetorical question. The Speedbird was Imperial Airways' logo and first flew in 1932. The Speedbird was Imperi...

There would be a decent benefit to connect Terminals 1 and 4 inside security as domestic arrivals on Delta could depart on AF or KE without re-clearing security. That's really the only benefit I see. I don't know why AF hasn't moved to T4 yet. Considering their own airline KLM, and their best frien...

If we're talking about the longevity of airlines over time using the same name all the way, then the likes of KLM, Avianca, Qantas etc certainly have it over the likes of 50 years old 'British Airways'. KLM’s claim to be 100 years old demands closer scrutiny. In 1940 the Nazis occupied the Netherla...

The north cargo apron is only wide enough for one taxiway. Suppose you build an E satellite over there, you’ve now got e9-16 and all the “new” E gates stuck at the mercy of a single entrance/exit. Throw in a broken towbar, pushback, delayed startup or anything, and suddenly 3/4 of terminal E is gro...

I think there's a real problem of "where do you put it?" The terminals are about 1,500 feet apart and there's stuff -- a big parking garage and a hotel -- in the way. It's also only useful in one direction since E-->A connections can take the existing non-sterile bridge or the 11 bus. For...

It's not true that the combis have no demand. Apparently, in a very limited, but highly lucrative, trade of flying horses, 747-combis are a perfect solution.
