I don't like this blame everybody else first attitude at all.
Mistakes can happen. They should be admitted and rectified, and that is what has happened, fortunately.
If they want to expand significantly they should move the entire location to a more distant place well connected by fast rail. Selling land in west London will yield enough. Post Brexit I would move it more towards the industrial and population centres up north.
Jump to postFrom my view the main problem was how a mistake like MCAS 1.0 could slip through so many levels of Boeings safety culture. It got even hidden from the pilots and paperwork to comply with the Southwest training requirements in order to avoid Boeing having to pay for separate simulator training for MA...

Back in the day I actually liked well organised and clean Domodedovo airport in Moscow for affordable shopping and a selection of pretty good budget restaurants.
Jump to postI like Atlanta. Huge but easy to connect at.
Jump to postI once flew long distance as a passenger onboard some well known Asian airline. The service was picture-perfect, like a Queen's visit. Almost surreal. At the end of the flight, all passengers received a questionnaire about the service - by Skytrax.
Jump to postI'd agree with Changi and Incheon being top of the list, but this is no surprise to anybody any more.
Jump to postIt is astounding to see this happening with a wing walker next to the wing tip.
Jump to postI like the fact that they finally keep the traditional Raymond Loewy design that has become an icon itself and even has a certain camouflage effect when the aircraft is vulnerable when approaching. I hope they don't modify the colours to any modern tone variation that misses the original elegance.
Jump to postI thought RIA was easy to remember and made sense.
Jump to postI think flight crew uniforms are especially demanding. People wear them for very long workdays in all sorts of climates, need to move in tight quarters, sometimes sleep in them and work on "machinery" like galley carts, doors and such. What you need for this is good robust fabric, like woo...
Jump to postIs this what had been known as projected new airline RIA before?
Jump to postThe MAX 10 "matches" A321neo seats? 244?
IIRC the MAX 10 can carry 230 passengers?
The 777-9 seems to be slipping and the 787 can't be delivered in time. This goes on for a long time now. Customers complain in public. Hopefully Howard McKenzie can get things going. I am glad that Boeing aggressively offers the 777-8F because otherwise I would have feared for the entire 777X program.
Jump to postWhy not do it with remote operated drones in some desert without a big real audience and livestream everything with thousands of GoPros on the web instead? All the fun and none of the dangers.
Jump to postThe moment "I woke up" about its capabilities had come when Lufthansa replaced its A310-fleet with A321s (ceo) back then and it worked! You could see how much capacity they can generate. Even more so in China and Turkye.
Jump to postIt used to be an exot with not much range. It has been updated to become the current global airliner superstar with the new engine's performance. Boeing should have matched it with the NSA.
Jump to postBoeing commercial needs a future product roadmap and then invest and stick to it. Why is the 777X not really progressing? Where is the next 737 or 757? Why has the 787 still hick-ups? Does Boeing still want to compete in the future or do they just milk what they have? They certainly still could do i...
Jump to postI have never heard about this. Was it caused by some weight and balance issue? How would loading and unloading of those containers work in time for the next flight? I have seen many passenger LH DC-10s and never noticed containers being loaded to the main deck.
Jump to postArgentina announced at the G20 minsters meeting this month that they want to abandon the “Foradori-Duncan Pact” of 2016 and renegotiate who owns the islands and such. (not wanting to go into politics here) Possibly this is upcoming election campaign motivated. This is a higher level issue it seems a...
Jump to postAirbus calls this new door arrangement the Airbus cabin flex option (ACF). IIRC there are late build ceos with ACF and possibly neos with the older door layout? The advantage is that now you got the doors right where the big economy passenger number takes their seats, in the back, not in the front.
Jump to postWhile the city of Frankfurt in fact is not that big, it's positioned right in the middle of the western half of the country, next to main autobahns, railway lines and high speed rail connecting it to both the Ruhr valley and southern Germany. This is why Frankfurt has grown to become by far the most...
Jump to postI certainly would prefer to inhale oxygen from a mask instead over smoky cabin air.
Jump to postBA has ordered 18 777-9 as 747 replacements, but here we were talking about older 777's replacements, and they are a huge fleet as well.
Jump to postBA 777-9 would make much sense as they need very big twins for Heathrow. However, those are not available with RR engines, so the A350K might make sense for them as well.
Jump to postWhy hate them? They are typically the cheapest, they fly on time, are very well-organized and have a young fleet. If you strictly follow their rules, like print out the boarding passes yourself or respect very tight carry on sizes, they work seamless and reliable at good prices. Especially when book...
Jump to postI think Qatar might order more A350s. If the 777X is delayed, they will need those seats from other sources. They had wanted early 777Xs.
Jump to postI am not sure about big US orders happening at Paris. Why would they wait for European summer? However I'd say Ryanair might order MAX 10s. Plus possibly something for their long range project as well if this is still brewing? Indigo feels likely to happen.
Jump to postI think aside from sunrise ultra long haul is not likely to come back or catch up in any significant way. The reason is you carry mostly the fuel and not actual payload. Landing in between will make those flights much more profitable by adding cargo and not having to waste precious cabin space for l...
Jump to postDo they still assemble aircraft with the parts concerned as we speak?
Jump to postI'd speculate LH will order passenger -1000s for their interim needs the more the 777-9 gets delayed. Their T7-9 orders will then be converted to more T7-8 freighters, the longer this takes.
Jump to postIs this just a pause of deliveries, or formally a pause of production of all aircraft with the parts concerned until the formalities are resolved?
Jump to postThis is a marketing failure by both manufacturers and airlines since so many years. Why not brand it as the "green grizzly" or something similar? Giving passengers a good feel to be onboard a more quiet, more efficient and more green aircraft and thanking them for being ahead. More modern ...
Jump to postThere is so much talk about climate change and greener aviation. But turboprops, the most promising, immediately available technology to reduce fuel burn with not much speed penalty on shorter routes, are not really considered.
Jump to postOn the long run it might kill KLM. On the short run it weakens their position versus rival/brother AF. A global trade nation like the Netherlands needs a hub airline. Their business will just move elsewhere.
Jump to postAirlines had lobbied many years to get the EU to order competition and free access at all EU airports.
Jump to postLH Cityline 1.0 gets more A321P2F (flying for LH Cargo) plus A320neo or similar. I even saw fleet numbers somewhere.

Does Boeing still assemble more new 777-9 airframes or maybe some -8F prototype, test frame or similar right now or is the line exclusively devoted to the 777-200LRF for the time being? This must be a bestseller with cargo airlines and internet sales companies in shopping mood after earning all thos...
Jump to postMy personal conspiracy theory is that the EU/France and Qatar traded the Airbus-Qatar airlines peace versus the latest State of Qatar-EU parliament bribery scandal in Brussels. The scandal has become quiet overnight. Certainly pure coincidence.
Jump to postI went through a CT-scan security for hand baggage at FRA the other day. Smooth as silk. Everything can stay inside. However the rules are still existing for everybody and not all lanes are CT. So pack as usual please. What really starts to surprise me how many false alarms the "naked" bac...
Jump to postWouldn't every pilot lower the nose and try to glide to the next field, which they were even very close to at this moment? Confusion can happen, mistakes can happen but wouldn't the pilot flying not permanently focus on speed during an approach? How can low speed be missed?
Jump to postWouldn't they constantly monitor speed and everything? Mixing up things has happened but wouldn't the pilot flying catch it and wonder where the power is at low speed before a stall?
