Re: United Celebrates 75 Years to Hawaii

Let's see what I can shake out of my old brain (which gets a year older this month!). American started Hawaii service back in the Seventies. They used to partner with Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays for cruises that circled the islands and called on the major ports. I don't remember if Braniff served Ha...

I am really dating myself here, but AA flew TUS-ELP-LGA as an all-nighter.Flight 90. Late 60s or early 70s. 727-023. Didn’t last long. I remember that. ELP has seen a lot of interesting service in the past: AA DC-10s to DFW, CO DC-10 to SAT/IAH, CO to MEX and several mexican resort cities, TWA to S...

Curious of people’s opinion on SkyBus, if you ever flew them, were they ahead of their time for the US, what would they have maybe looked like today if they had survived? Skybus was absurd, almost to the degree of Hooter Air. All it offered was flights to Columbus with no connections and when you t...

Air France never had the network to support A380 operations. It makes sense if the lease rates are too high and the lessor didn't offer AF a good enough deal to renew. AF also have the option to buy them from the lessor. Right. Let's take it to the next logical step: an airline with 777, 11-across. More seats, more revenue, what's not to like for the airline? And yes, discomforted passengers have either to battle each other, or book a premium seat, to have at least some sense of comfort. Next step, 787, 10-across. ...

Well, then airlines should get more realistic about passengers size. A 9-across A330 or A310, or 6-across ARJ/BAe-146 are glaring examples of being unrealistic on their part, don't you think? My point is that a "one size fits all" averaging of airfare pricing subsidizes over sized/weight people at the expense of everyone else. Why should the transport of people be priced differently than cargo? Baggage cost is calculated by weight/volume, isn't it? https://www.shipit.com/archi...

Reread my last post about volume. You are correct, the weight is averaged but still, the direct cost to the airlines on fuel is directly tied to weight. Kenmore Air does not ask about weight because of revenue concerns. If they asked, it would be to ensure weight and balance limits are not exceeded....

Because what it cost the airlines to transport you is directly related to weight. Couple that with a volume requirement. If you don't fit in the space of one seat, you have to buy 2 seats. Seems completely fair to me. The weight is calculated in. Volume is what matters here. If you take up two seat...
