Make it a day time flight next day to PXM. Get a window seat A (left facing forward) and enjoy the volcanoes southeast of MEX while climbing to cruise level and then once the airplane flies over PXM VOR enjoy de view of Puerto Escondido during approach.

I grew up in Berlin and flew a lot on Pan Am, especially in Germany, but transatlantic and within the US as well. I wonder if the huge 747 order broke the neck of Pan Am? It had teething troubles for some time, the air transport system and market were not ready for the big aircraft and oil went up....

Back in the 1960´s Iberia´s flights from MEX-SDQ-MAD-SDQMEX, and Aeronaves de México MEX-MIA-MAD-MIA.MEX were called "La Ruta del Sol" or "The Sun Route".
Mexicana used to call it´s redeyes "Tecolote" or "Owl" flights.

IMHO It was Juan Trippe´s decisón no to order SST´s (under strong Charles Lindbergj advise) the main reason SST grew as little as they did.
