Virgin are going to expand where it's commercially viable and the CEO seems to think that is LHR. "Virgin Atlantic Set to Double Capacity at Heathrow Says CEO" "The carrier, founded by billionaire Richard Branson, would like to use Flybe to roll up more airlines into an expanded shor...Jump to post
So is that the message to the world. Expand LHR or the U.K. stops expanding too. VS is a growing business, it won’t simply ‘not expand’ just because R3 gets kicked into the sidelines. I’ve not stated VS will treble in size overnight in any of my postings. What I have addressed is the lack of slots t...Jump to post
But in the interim they can keep applying for and re-assigning remedy slots through Flybe and swapping them with unrestricted slots operated by AF/KLM. I think he is saying that by the time runway 3 comes around they want to have a network that stands up as a competitor to BA rather than what they ...Jump to post
there are plenty of A330ceo flying with a downstairs lav, the same LH has on the A346. I know about LH and the A346 lower deck lavs but I don't know of any A330ceo with lower deck lavs. Who currently flies with this configuration on the A330ceo? Thomas Cook UK has downstairs lavs on a few of their ...Jump to post
That growth is dependent on Runway 3 being built. With more legal challenges in the wings, potential anti-R3 prime minister in BoJo coming online and the growing anti Greenhouse Gas lobby particularly targeting aviation, I'll put good money on that runway not being ready by Shai's 2026 target. And i...Jump to post
I wonder if they will place a business product on the aircraft? I've heard this A339 order is for a MAN sub fleet with a slightly lower upper seat count similar to the ex-Air Berlin they will replace. 4 of the 10 will replace the AB aircraft and the other 6 will be for expansion. Also expect an order for the A220 to come too. VS currently asking its frequent fli...Jump to post
UA don’t put the code on the flight but do let SQ put their code on some IAH connections for SIN pax only. UA ticketed connections are not available to MAN pax. Looking at data from the airport, it seems the average load for MAN-IAH-MAN pax are about 90-110 (some days higher) while IAH-SIN-IAH seems...Jump to post
You are talking about the home base of a hub airline in the countries biggest city, so very easy for them to do. MAN doesn’t have a large, home based hub airline and is not the UKs biggest city, so, probably needs a foreign airline to open such a route. In the same vein, this "foreign airline&...Jump to post
Just my 2p. BOM-MAN was one of 9W's weaker long haul flights (the other being MAA-CDG) compared to the AMS and LHR flights ex BOM. 9W could only make BOM-MAN work because of VS's strong presence at MAN and 9Ws strong presence at BOM - The flight funnelled many India-US two stop itineraries from Ind...Jump to post
Jet proved the market existed, and if Vistara and Virgin could team up, back on to a winner. Just my 2p. They also flew to MAN initially with B777 but then B747-400. However yield was poor and the route only lasted 2-3 years. Did love seeing their famous 'hibiscus' livery at MAN. They then tried again with just a cargo flight but despite good figures on that one it too was pulled (I believe it was due ...Jump to post
Well, like I say, all these similar arguments appeared to disprove Jet entering the route, and despite what happened, we all saw them enter the route anyway. We will just have to see how this plays out but all I'm saying is we can't jump to conclusions just yet, stranger things have happened.......Jump to post
I think it's unlikely that anyone will start BOM MAN now. If AI starts MAN , they'll add it to their EU bank from DEL. If Vistara starts flying int'l this year, of course Manchester won't be in their list of first few destinations. Only one who can fly is VS and I hope they better try making LHR BO...Jump to post

Furthermore, there was a demonstration flight a few months ago at MAN where Embraer brought the "profit hunter" E190-E2 over and took BA out for a spin around the Lake District. Not seen Bombardier / Airbus do anything like that yet. The CS100 demonstrator has been to MAN for a few days p...Jump to post
I suspect This is just attention seeking and probably lacks substance. Reason I say that, is if you genuinely plan this sort of action, then rule number one, dont publish your plans. Lufthansa will increase MUC-MAN to 4 daily Monday-Friday from 1st November. Flights will arrive at MAN 1305/1310 and depart at 1355. They will use the A319/320 for this flight. This also means that the Lufthansa group will serve Manchester up to 17 Times a day to 5 destinations this winter (FRA 5 da...Jump to post
Interesting. Who are all these Thai travelling pax do we think? Outbound leisure, high yielding business or connecting? And what aircraft? Interesting to know who this would steal from? It's great listing all the potential long haul destinations but with what feed? Looking at it far too simplistically. I’ve already explained why the destinations would work in themselves. Yes, the hub operation is small to begin with, but, we are talking about shifting the deckchairs at best, and a...Jump to post
I am very surprised to see people have not mentioned BKK - that could be a cash cow for VS if they bought TC. With leisure backing too; could open up HKT and do a "thailand trip" and give some competition to TUI. I personally didn’t mention BKK as it seems to be one of those annoyingly ob...Jump to post
MT currently has a decent amount of feed from BE/SK and LH. You get feed for the likes of ANU if the destination isn’t served from the feeding airport, so it’s more importantly than you’d think.Jump to post
While the destinations you've listed would be brilliant to see, I struggle to imagine that places like NRT and CPT wouldn't return to London before Manchester. That said, times have changed, VHols are stronger than they were 10 years ago and with some clever hubbing it might be a possibility. Do yo...Jump to post
MT have finished the lease with Air Tanker. One is with Condor and 2 with Jet2.
The MT short haul operation probably would have been good had they not already brought the FlyBe one. Might as well cherry pick what you need.
not familiar with TCX's operations but according to to Wikipedia they have 7 A330s on lease, 3 operating for Condor. Any info on how accurate this is? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Cook_Airlines If so we are talking about VS taking over 4 A330 leases (some serving LGW) which is relatively sm...Jump to post
I do honestly feel MAN could be to the VS/DL/AF/KL group what DUB is to IAG, which is a good relief hub. AMS is running out of slots (capped), CDG is, well, CDG and LHR is full until a new runway, which still isn’t guaranteed and even if it does get permission is a good 10 years away. This means for...Jump to post
If indigo bought tc would they rebrand as wiz or keep separate ? The only reason I could see easy buying is to stop wizz expansion into other bases . Can’t see what virgin can gain as a/c are old only crews trained and ready are of value and possibly slots .However they could probably grow themselv...Jump to post
I can’t see the competition authorities having any issue with VS buying out the MT long haul. We are talking about 9 planes from VS and it still wouldn’t be the largest airline by volume at MAN. Even with BE we are talking about a base still smaller than Aer Lingus at DUB. In terms of destinations a...Jump to post
Well, buying the long haul operation would certainly give the prospect of a MAN hub more credibility. This would literally double the VS long haul operation at MAN overnight. Back when VS took the stake in FlyBe, it was rumoured it was all to build a hub at MAN, with a small feed operation at LHR. T...Jump to post
MAN handles WAYY more diverts than LHR. Can you share the stats on this please? Would make interesting reading. Thanks Mark While I don’t need have the exact dates and times to had: TATL wise: Lufthansa has diverted several A380 MAN (the LH441 in particular has made at least 4 visits to MAN). Yeah. LHR is prob better for engine failures bc of the long rwy. U.K. aviation doesn’t start and end at LHR. Each divert is decided on the circumstance at the time. Hijack or potential bomb threat, that will see you at STN. If STN is no good, then PIK. Tech or medical issue: most end up at MAN, DUB...Jump to post
MAN is a good divert option for a lot of the TATL flights. Long runways, full ILS, good hospital 5 minutes down the road with full ICU capability, and in terms of Etihad, it’s a big station for them so has engineering, ground staff, easy to get crew in position, hotel contracts and more. This sale has come at the wrong time for VS. I have no doubt they are interested, but, when they have just forked out for Flybe, their financial hands are likely tied. If LH gets hold of MT, then a question mark hands over the UK operation. But, would the competition watchdogs allow it. For long hau...Jump to post
