Re: Coronavirus Aviation Related News & Discussion Thread - March 2020

Indeed there is a lot of wishful thinking here. A lot of people in this forum works in the aviation industry so they don’t want to accept the grim reality ahead. It will be way worse than 2008 because there will be no Emirates, Qatar or Asian carriers to hire all those left overs. Based on what dat...

Re: ANA orders 20 additional 787s

ANA has domestic 787-9 with 395 seats, how many more seats could they need ? do they really need a 500 seater ? The 787-10 might have 450 in a domestic configuration, anything bigger seems overkill. Totally make sense. There is a gap between 400 and 500 seats currently. 11 domestic 787-10s with 450...

However, some old 77Ws might be reconfigured to high-density layout to replace domestic 773-nonER. Isn't that what the -10s are for? The first post of this thread quotes ANA saying the -10s will be for "domestic" use. Or are they referring to the "regional" role the current -10s...

Re: ANA orders 20 additional 787s

The 777-300/ER used for short(er) routes are extremely dense configs, such as Air Canada's 450 and some Japanese airlines' near-470 person setups, and has no replacement other than a 10-abreast A350 or the 777X. I thought I read 779 would have exit limit of 440. 779 exit limit is 475. 440 if pluggi...

I have to wonder how many of these B78Xs will be domestic birds in a maximum configuration. That said, had NH not done a top-up B77W order, some of these B78Xs could have been super-high premium 200 seaters (in 4 classes) for LHR, FRA, and JFK. The range is 6430 nmi at 330 pax, but NH is a high J a...

Re: ANA orders 20 additional 787s

Interesting... ANA selects 787-10 for the domestic 772/773 replacement. I'm sure that the 777-300ERs are not going anywhere anytime soon, at least not before 2030. The 787-9 is meant to replace the 772, the oldest of which being now 24, and the 787-10 is meant to replace the 773 non ER like you say...

Chinese WS-10 turbofan is derived from the CFM-56/GE F101.
This engine is not reliable, PLA still needs to import AL-31 from Russia.

Let's take a look at the ARJ-21, a twin brother of DC-9.
Chinese gov. claims this aircraft is a "Chinese Independent Design" masterpiece.
