All routes were flown for a reason, many of them would have had a good chance of being profitable. The reason a route seems surprising is often because the circumstances for the route to have existed may not be known to everyone today

AF and KL wasted large quantities of time and money in the last 30 years on trying to keep Alitalia viable and/or within Skyteam. Eventually they gave up. While AF-KL has since changed its CEO, I imagine the combined memory of many of the AF-KL employees suggests a reluctance to get involved again

There will always be exceptions... and there will always be special cases where a "no flights for ultra short haul" rule fails. However, it is worth remembering that in France there is a genuine political desire amongst many of the voters to push people away from flying and to use the trai...

Finnair would be foolish to operate long haul out of ARN for any longer than the after effects of the pandemic last. This should be a temporary measure until long haul business travel resumes... and nothing more. If travel between Europe and major cities in east Asia is not fairly robust by December...

Easyjet tends to go for a smaller number of routes flown at higher frequencies... Ryanair does the reverse, namely more routes at lower frequencies. The routes per aircraft ratio is not the same
