Consider the passenger travelling from Gothenburg in Sweden to Lima in Peru. Iberia don't fly to Gothenburg, and BA doesn't fly to Lima. If you're flying IAG all the way, you'll need to transfer flights at LHR and MAD. Preferably without having to change terminals and/or crossing the UK border twice...

The areas of LHR T5 that are really worth visiting typically require high level status with a Oneworld airline. If you have lived near HAJ for the last few years and have never flown through LHR T5, I'm guessing that's unlikely to be you.

No airport *needs* a ceremony - this is not like a religious priest giving a blessing. However, politicians are usually VERY keen on the photo opportunity at the opening of a big piece of infrastructure... and they will usually insist on being photographed while cutting a ribbon

I thought when ITA replaced Alitalia, that thousands of employees were not rehired and presumably the company was slimmed down and in better shape. Where did this go wrong ? Was it just that the employees:airframes ratio remained unchanged ?
