Re: Hanoi Noi Bai (HAN) might be doubled in size with 4 runways and 4 terminals

HAN certainly needs more runway as it is approaching 800-1000 daily take offs and landings. However it is hard to position itself as transit hub like SIN, BKK or HKG, not exactly well positioned for Europe - SEA like BKK or North America - SEA like HKG, ICN, NRT, TPE. The only sensible transit marke...

Re: Vietnam Airlines wants to speed up its order of 50 narrowbodies amid COVID-19

VN has the fifth freedom right at KIX, TPE so they were looking at those stopovers for their proposed LAX route. They could actually do a scissor HAN/SGN/DAD - TPE/KIX - LAX. That would help them to fill up widebody with passengers from all 3 VN cities, save some fuel, and achieve their political mi...

Re: The future of Skyteam - is there any?

Nobody said anything about codeshare. Apparently, DL and MF have an interline agreement on paper, but not even connecting flights (not codeshare) are being made available, even on MF flights to the US or DL flights to China. Another member pointed out that they have not had success in redeeming Sky...

Re: The future of Skyteam - is there any?

There is a fundamentally difference between Interline and Codeshare. DL indeed interlines will many airlines, it just helps with check-in and baggage but it does not mean they have to sell each other's ticket. Alot of airlines in the same alliance don't do codeshare e.g SQ and UA never codeshare the...

Re: Jetstar Pacific: QF reportedly transferring its stakes to Vietnam Airlines

However ALL [GTranslate missed this phrase] BL flights will be operated under the VN brand (as mentioned, "dual-brand" strategy) as well as VN's aircraft. Even the boarding pass what said using VN's blue form, not Jetstar's orange form even though the code on that ticket is BL, not VN. I ...

Re: Cathay Pacific eyes Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner as swap for 777X

This could be the end for 777-9. With more and more airlines ordering smaller airplanes. 777-9 might suffer the same fate as A380 but much faster. I wonder if LH and SQ will change their orders for 777X given the grim market outlook. EK might be not as they need something to replace their 777 and A380

Re: Vietnam Airlines wants to speed up its order of 50 narrowbodies amid COVID-19

Well VN can find no trouble surviving with just the hige domestic market. International routes, hmmm, suprisingly that market is not extremely significant for VN. No customer for the 787/350s so I guess VN will return some of those airframes to the lessor, as its widebodies fleet is suffering from ...

Re: Vietnam Airlines wants to speed up its order of 50 narrowbodies amid COVID-19

Domestic demand will recover quite quickly and however international demand is uncertain. VN is trying to lease out their A350 and 787 but I am not sure if there is any taker. So my bet is that they will use those birds for domestic trunk routes. Looking at 3-4 years, QH might not even exist anymore...

Very smart but risky move by VN. How this will play out depend on how long social distancing measure be in place and how long it takes for the air travel demand to recover

Re: Jetstar Pacific: QF reportedly transferring its stakes to Vietnam Airlines

I don't think there will be new name for BL. VN will just fold this airline for various reasons - The brand name is notorious, it is associated with cancellation, delay and small network. - BL's small fleets doesn't have low cost structure as it should - VN has been offering lower fare type (basic e...

Last year QH finally made profit (no loss), I felt lucky for it.[/quote]

I am skeptical of this given that QH is not publicly traded and doesn't disclose any financial statements. This is purely based on an interview with management.

However, its service is so damn good. I flew with Bamboo twice. Hope that Bamboo will success. Despite its awesome service, I am worried about its development plans. 50 aircraft this year; $5bn 777X order (alongside the 10 more 789 currently on order); firming up the MoU of 50 A321neo [and 20 more ...

Re: Bamboo Airways Plans Munich to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

I am skeptical about them being profitable, Vietnam's market has been suffering from overcapacity for a couple of ...

So that means Scoot will have 10 leased A321Neos , 6 A321Neos and 31 A320Neos on order. If the plan of transfer 14 B738 from MI still intact (after 7M8 grounding ends). That will be 61 aircrafts compared to 28 currently, a double growth for Scoot

I foresee a bloodbath when Vin enters as their strategy is always to capture market share at all costs. Interestingly, VN and VJ stock price is only of the highest PE in the region. VJ have bigger market cap than Air Asia.

Re: Vietnam Airlines profits up, eyes narrowbody orders

They have more than enough to do all the routes they have now comfortably. Agree that with the arrival of B7810s, they will use them in Japan routes, move A350 to longer haul. Maybe upgrade few regional flights e.g CAN, SIN, BKK to widebodies and open SGN - KIX/TPE - LAX. Medium term I could see the...

Re: Vietnam Airlines profits up, eyes narrowbody orders

I always wondered why they had both the 787 and A350. Geo-political game playing to both the US & EU!? Because there's not nearly as much overlap in the size/mission profile between the two aircraft as AvGeeks often imagine... thus they're actually quite complimentary. Which is why the likes of...

Quite surprised because there is a local articles stating otherwise. Profit in first 6 months dropped 11% compared to last year. Especially profit of Q2 dropped 83% compared to Q2 last year. Guess the competition is squeezing them hard. http://cafef.vn/vietnam-airlines-uoc-lai-truoc-thue-71-ty-dong-...
