Re: What was it like to fly during the weeks following 9/11?

Flew MCI-LAS and back a couple of weeks later -- LAS still had armed military members patrolling the terminal. Mood was still somewhat subdued, as I recall. Both flights - on long-passed Vanguard - were full, though.

Re: What Airports did Airlines train at in the Old Days?

Prior to the official opening of MCI (and the transfer of Kansas City passenger service from MKC) in November 1972, Braniff pilots would conduct touch-and-gos at the airfield. I recall there was a photo of a BI 727 (taken from an adjacent cornfield) as it was performing a touch-and-go that appeared ...

Agreed - Any approach to the the 19s. Approaches to the 1s are much more interesting. Approaching 27 is fun because it doesn't - for me anyway - happen often; when it does, I love flying past our house on final.

Construction on the new MCI terminal never stopped. As in other cities, counties and states, construction was deemed an essential business by the City of Kansas City. Major progress was made during the Spring, and - for now - the project remains on time and on budget. https://www.buildkci.com/future...

DL would scream bloody murder if KL went to IAG. Very True. Delta has ties with KLM back to Northwest days. Delta & KLM is a better codeshare than Delta Air France. In my own experience, the DL-KLM codeshare works almost seamlessly. Between a DL-KLM combination itinerary and a DL-AF itinerary, ...

MCI was built out to succeed MKC as Kansas City's primary commercial airport, by FAA mandate. But, MKC continues to thrive as a GA airport as well as for MLB team charters (Chiefs and other NFL team charters use MCI). So, in that sense, MCI did not "kill" MKC. One of the best segments of m...
