RE: Priority Screening - Opinions?

Thanks. Helps to know before I waste the screeners' time. (Reminds me of a participant we had on the forum years ago who was absolutely convinced that Columbus, OH was the Center of the Aviation World).  <img src="http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/graphics/smilies/wink.gif" width="15...

RE: Prescreen Comments - Still On The 300mm Nikkor

Per my previous thread, Dana, I think I'm clearly on to three issues:

1. No monopod at full focal length.
2. Not shooting in RAW.
3. My resistance to halos in sharpening....I'll just have to get over it.

Thank you.

One more, since it's the only one of the three that even gets me remotely excited. <center><table align="center" border="0" width="650" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td><a href="/uf/view.file?id=28526&filename=phpHY4ZTh.jpeg" target="_blank"><img src="http://cdn-www.airliners.net/uf/28526...

Priority Screening - Opinions?

As long as I'm on the forum... NASA is deploying its DC-8 platform at KFLL in mid-August for several weeks and I'll be out there with the rest of the media. It's part of their GRIP hurricane studies. Locally, yes, it's news. For a global audience, however, would this limited deployment qualify for p...

RE: Prescreen Comments - Still On The 300mm Nikkor

Immediate obvious (to me) concern is centering vis-a-vis what do you do with those vertical fins? Evident in the Twins...center fuselages vertically or entire a/c? In the Rotation pic, go for the nose/fin relationship or the entire fuselage? Also, your preference for NR/sharpening pre- or post-sizin...

Prescreen Comments - Still On The 300mm Nikkor

Still playing with the 300mm Nikkor as I'm usually restoring 70s-80s pix here, not shooting. Your comments. As always, appreciate the critique since my ego's long past bruising...comes with age, like wisdom.  <img border=0 src="http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/graphics/smilies/wink....

Beautiful Schiphol sunsets! (Alway jealous of Euro spotters anyway). And I think you and I are on the same page vis-a-vis monopod, etc. Appreciate the input on NeatImage. I've been using Noise Ninja for years, but....

RE: PRESCREEN: New Lens - Lo Light - Comments

Thanks to all who have commented. A few of my own as I let my brain chew on this: 1. The noise/halo thing is particularly bothersome to me in any shot. I tend to agree there may be no happy medium here. Yes, I did shoot at ISO 400. I might be able to squeeze something out at 200-300, though you'll s...

RE: PRESCREEN: New Lens - Lo Light - Comments

Appreciate the comments, Dana. The advert guy - my avocation - and artsy-fartsy guy in me were at odds over the composition because of the cloud bank. So, again, advert guy wins, right? Detail, yes, is an issue in sunset situations and I'm wary of oversharpening/noise. As to backlighting, well, I do...

PRESCREEN: New Lens - Lo Light - Comments

I'm finally using the D5000 body for something other than my typical event and product shots, but it took a 70-300VR to get me there. Typically, too, I've been uploading restored images, instead of current stuff. Well, that's about to change... This is a sunset shot posted in NN and PS. Comments ple...

Quick followup note that, as suggested in similar discussions, I've invoiced the Beeb for rate + 50%.

BBC Copyright Infringement - A Head's Up

A head's up if anyone receives an email from a Tom Geoghegan at the Beeb (email addy on request). He requested use of my image (http://www.airliners.net/photo/United-Airlines/Boeing-747-122/1380691/M/). As usual, my response is to grant permission on receipt of their usual fee via my PayPal account....

RE: Help With Photoshop Elements

Hi Luke --

I work off of CS2, but I assume there are some basic similarities.

Create a new file in the size you want, say 1024x768 (300 dpi RGB, not CMYK). Then drag and drop the old image into the new file. Resize to your heart's content.

Regards,
Dave

RE: What Is Wrong With This Picture?

G'day Matthew -- I'll tread lightly because I assume most of us are protective of our art and I don't know the circumstances of your shooting location. The most obvious problem to my eyes is the rotor assembly confused with the skyscrapers. I'd have preferred to see a simpler (i.e., water only) back...

Heya Juan! As I sometimes do in these forums, I ran your pic thru a quick wash in <acronym title="Ukraine International Airlines">PS</acronym>. If you don't mind spending some time tweaking the contrast, the shadow/highlight tool and very selective dodge/burn worked well for me....very nice underbel...

I'll echo some of what's been said thusfar on the screeners' POV, particularly workload and relying on photogs to critique their own images. So, too, being old, it doesn't matter to me if they screen in two weeks or a month  <img src="/aviation-forums/graphics/smilies/wink.gif" alt="Wink"> In g...

RE: What Is The Best CRT Monitor To Use

Both for my agency work and Airliners.net I've been extremely happy with an NEC Multisync FE2111SB for several years, particularly in restoring old images. Personally, I've avoided panels completely because of dot pitch, dead pixels and, quite honestly, budget. You probably know that's only half the...

Now, I like Louis' suggestion and, considering the - albeit restrained - apology from <acronym title="Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood International (FLL / KFLL), USA - Florida">FLL</acronym> management, I'm inclined to approach it on that basis. Hey all...discussion's great and I appreciate seeing such a spirited discourse, positive and negative. Thank you. FLL Public Photography Hazards

As all of us, I’ve noted with dismay and apprehension the heavy-handed tactics used by law enforcers in the post 9/11 “security” hysteria to prevent citizens from engaging in Constitutionally-protected activities…not unlike that during McCarthyism in the 50s, Vietnam in the 60s and the FTAA protests...
