Re: Ethiopian Airlines 737MAX crashes enroute to Nairobi

^^^ ok so with that info and apparently how easy it is to disable the trim or a failing mcas system due to faulty sensor inputs....how did these pilots allow the plane to fall out of the sky? Re: Ethiopian Airlines 737MAX crashes enroute to Nairobi

The likes of Southwest (and maybe RyanAir) have held the 737 program hostage for too long. We're seeing the dark side of free market economics with Boeing still prattling around the 737 in the 2020s at the behest of these carriers unwilling to spend the dime to look forward. How many more incidents...

Improving MCAS doesn't necessarily make it the cause of the crash, though. From what I recall from the Lion thread, MCAS is disabled when flaps are lowered and/or auto pilot is engaged. As well, it can be manually disengaged intermittently with the electric trim switch on the yoke, and permanently ...

Re: Should airline regulators consider grounding B737 MAX series

Here is my take: there is a design fault in the 737MAX MCAS that manifests itself only under certain malfunctions (invalid AoA value). There is a pilot memory item that will disable MCAS under those malfunctions. However, it is not good practice to circumvent design faults by memory items. Boeing w...

There's has been a lot of mention of MCAS. Does anyone know if it was enabled? Were the flaps fully retracted? If the flaps were deployed, MCAS would have been disabled. FR24 has only first 3 minutes of the flight recorded, the rest of the flight was out of their coverage. It only happened because EK had to avoid the A380 cancellation penalties. Unless that narrative has been proven, I doubt it. Airbus benefits greatly from the cancellation of the 380 program. The really really big win for Airbus here is that EK has validated the A330neo as a competitor to the B787. That is a big boost for the 330neo in future contests. Boeing tried to strangle the 330neo at birth (the HA deal for example) because it knows its strengths, and the EK deal means they failed...

Airbus is now pretty much entirely depended on the 320, 330, and 350 (A220 to a lesser extent). This has been the case for a few years, ending the 380 just formalized the status quo. I look at the GE-9X vs Ultrafan as being a similar competition between the GTF and LEAP. No doubt the gearbox is a real game changer, but so are exotic materials.
