Re: Air India Express IX1344 landing accident at Kozhikode

It could have been the aircraft that touched down, not the pilot. In heavy rain I would be more inclined to autoland. Is it even equipped for CatIII autoland? I know AA’s NG’s didn’t have (might now) the feature for CATIII autoland. I always found autoland to be unnerving. It’s hard to turn over co...

Somebody knows the reg of the 76 B738? N901AN - N976AN. Kind of hard to believe they only outlived the Super 80 by 7 months. The other poster stated aircraft N901AN (3AA) thru N978AN (3DL), which is correct because AA skipped N911AN and aircraft N977AN (3DK) was written off in Kingston in 2009. N97...

Difficult to speculate, but my guess would be a porpoising bounce resulting in landing hard on the nose gear.

Are you a pilot? I'm not asking to be difficult, I'm wanting to know how much expertise is behind your post. No I am not a pilot. So it is just a theoretical thought. Flew a few times in a simulator and as a "co-Pilot" in a Cessna. I worked a few years in research of airflow especially co...

1) I don’t know where this idea of the crew “reducing power” comes from. They did no such thing. They pitched up to slow to V2, which is standard procedure on any transport category jet for an engine failure during initial climb. Power remained the same throughout the flight. Reference: NTSB report....

It’s tough, but not impossible, to bounce a transport-category jet. If the spoilers deploy, you’re coming down—and if they stay up, you’re staying down. They are very effective. I don’t fly the SSJ, but in the 737 and other jets I’ve flown, the first thing we do on touchdown is ensure the spoilers h...

Re: Lion Air 737MAX8 Crashed Jakarta to Pangkal Pinang

To those wondering about why the pilots might have pushed the engines up to max thrust in the final seconds: it might have been a last-ditch and futile attempt to raise the nose. As the thrust line is below the CG on a 737, adding power creates a nose-up pitch moment. I don’t think it suggests disor...

I don't fly the 717, so I can't give you specifics on that airplane. The initial spool up and pause you hear is the engine dry motoring (i.e. fuel hasn't been introduced yet, the starter's just spinning the engine). On turbine-engined aircraft, there are start parameters that must be met before intr...

May have even been a case where the engine didn't light off immediately for whatever reason, in which case you'd be seeing unburned fuel. No big deal.

One thing is 100% clear. At that position taxiing to 18C, they were starting the left engine.
