Re: China Eastern 737-800 crashes in Guangxi, southern China

Question: If someone is performing a check ride, would they also be allowed to perform, at the same time, critical flight functions by acting as co-pilot? (FYI, I don't know the answer to that question; I'm genuinely curious to know.) Yes. I would respectfully disagree. There's already been enough ...

Re: China Eastern 737-800 crashes in Guangxi, southern China

The video is based on the premise that Zhang was "demoted". There's no actual confirmation of that. He could have been doing a check ride or something else. Everybody has called him an "FO" because he was in the right seat. That's also an assumption, not a fact. I will wait for ...

Re: Pilot retracted flaps one notch just before landing

Can't speak directly for the 757, but on the 737 and A32x, that's not entirely unusual. It doesn't happen super often, but it's not ultra-rare. The 737 has three different flap settings that are approved for normal landing, and the Airbus has two. Conditions might have changed from those briefed, an...

Hard to speculate whether that still image was from today. It’s hard to tell if slats/flaps are extended. They very well could be. That picture looks like a low res still from a video. All the exterior lights appear to be on, which could be an indication it’s either taking off or it’s imminent. That...

Any theories of what could blow all three tires at the same time besides pilot error / incredibly hard landing? Just my $.02, but I doubt even a hard landing that could cause visible damage to the airframe would blow all the tires (and I'm assuming it was just all the mains). I think whatever cause...

Okay fine. Why does Delta not face this delay. Nobody can answer that? The routes are required based on origin not airline. If DL flew KCLT to KBOS today they would have to file similar to AA. If you are asking why KATL originators are exempt on the routing today you would have to ask ATC that Here...

Its just how ATC decided to route their CLT to BOS flight at this time. Several other CLT to BOS flights did that route today also, its normal. The routing is predicated on an FCA over northeast today. Not remotely a normal routing. ATC never dictates what routes airlines must file unless for weath...

Maybe they are metering the number of flights through the NE corridor. 1) No.

It could have been the aircraft that touched down, not the pilot. In heavy rain I would be more inclined to autoland. Is it even equipped for CatIII autoland? 1) I don’t know where this idea of the crew “reducing power” comes from. They did no such thing. They pitched up to slow to V2, which is standard procedure on any transport category jet for an engine failure during initial climb. Power remained the same throughout the flight. It’s tough, but not impossible, to bounce a transport-category jet. If the spoilers deploy, you’re coming down—and if they stay up, you’re staying down. They are very effective. I don’t fly the SSJ, but in the 737 and other jets I’ve flown, the first thing we do on touchdown is ensure the spoilers h...

To those wondering about why the pilots might have pushed the engines up to max thrust in the final seconds: it might have been a last-ditch and futile attempt to raise the nose. As the thrust line is below the CG on a 737, adding power creates a nose-up pitch moment. I don’t think it suggests disor...

I don't fly the 717, so I can't give you specifics on that airplane.
