What happened to monthly Turkish Aviation in this forum? It seems since new year we just have this one, I kind of liked the monthly format, it was easy to follow-up and also I liked reading monthly summaries at the beginning of each month. Hi there, I have been starting them for the last 15 years, ...
Jump to postTK finally gets its color branding right. Turkish Airlines Red Pantone code is 3546 C
Jump to postunless AA goes wild card and becomes the first US carrier to enter IST. Who knows if it will ever happen, but just noting that there was some type of public mention. https://simpleflying.com/istanbul-europe-busiest-airport/ -Just a quick mention that DL and UA also Air Canada had flights to IST, in...
Jump to postHate to be off-topic, but speaking of which, if TK flies IST-DTW and ATL, will there be a chance TK will fly IST-CLT or PHL? Nothing is off topic :) PHL, no way; too close to EWR and JFK CLT, big maybe... AFAIK Denver is next, after that Orlando. After that it is anyone's guess. CLT, LAS, PHX, SAN ...
Jump to postTK back to selling upgrades at the gate. On my last IST-JFK flight, they were making announcements for Y pax to upgrade. I guess there were no takers since the C class was 75% full. On IST-SEA flight today my friend got one of those upgrades for just under $1000 one way and he says he got the last e...
Jump to postThe B777 cockpit crew (and cabin crew, even though they are multi-endorsed) will most likely just PAX back to IST the next day on the B787 flight. Close to 100 ER flights with TK, I've seen this only once, when a full dead heading crew came in wearing uniforms into the cabin flying to IST, once air...
Jump to postProbably an extended trip pairing for the A359 crew. Not great for crew utilisation, but I don't think TK would bother paxing the crew to a different port just to get them back to IST sooner. Yes, this is it. I got the answer from a TK pilot friend and he says they sometimes stay 2+ days at destina...
Jump to postHB-IWC wrote:I do not think there is a need to shuttle cabin crews around, as they are probably pretty much qualified across the entire fleet.
Here is Asia, they shuttle quite some cockpit crews around between Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Taipei right now. I imagine they may do the same in North America. You mean, shuttling TK crews domestically within the US?? Never thought of that. That's quite a last minute shuttling of 16 FAs, 3 pilots...
Jump to postQuick question: IST-SEA flights are alternating "almost" daily between 359 and 789. But sometimes two days back to back 789s. How does TK deal with crewing these flights? If a 359 crew went to SEA, and the next two days are 789s, how does that work? Today, FEB15 it was 359, next two days 7...
Jump to postIs this true? or just a BS? Not true; in my experiences. I have done many upgrades 9 months in advance or even longer and even if the schedules change, I never had to re-ugrade or loose my seat with TK. (fingers crossed) AFAIK, all airlines are legally have to inform the pax about the schedule chan...
Jump to postI totally agree with the EP benefits or the lack of :( Last week I was on a full IST-DLM TK flight(one of only 3 daily flights with TK, no SAW-DLM flights offered by AJet during some slow days) At IST, there are two lounges for TK loyalty pax, I used the one on the left for EPs. When the time came f...
Jump to postFrom "The Points Guy":
Turkish Airlines publishes new (devalued) award charts. You have till FEB15 to get some deals. Starting FEB16, required miles go up.

Well, same thing happened tonight at IST.
From touch down to reaching terminal was exactly 30 minutes pretty similar route down the horse shoe but this time remote parking (120??) and bussing
and another 30 minutes for the bags to finally arrive from EU to IST flight.
Exactly what happened.
34L and down around the horseshoe to a F gate
Thanks for the new thread. I was on TK2, JFK-IST couple days ago. Nothing to report, all good. Plane maybe 50+% full. Smooth flight and service in J. IST was crowded. Close to half hour taxi to the gate :( One thing to report; I used the LH lounge at JFK, nicer and serves alcohol. I wonder how long ...
Jump to postAbout the IST-SIN-MEL flights;
I imagine there will be a complete crew change at SIN.
Maybe someone with other comparable TK flights can chime in, what happens to the pax? Are they allowed to leave the plane to the gate area?
Thanks.

Many of you know that I could be critical of TK's online experience, becoming more and more a grumpy old man :) I just want to share the latest with you and surprisingly it is not that bad :) Last few weeks, I've purchased 14 legs on TK online; JFK-IST, IST-Europe, Domestic and such. I was able to u...
Jump to postWith all this, what is left ? Not much left to wish for? Long waited IST-DEN Just became a rubber band. It is just a matter of time. Probably this year. I wouldn't worry about it. And only other US destination besides DEN on TK's wish list is Orlando. Is there any more demand for anything...
Jump to postvisa free travel for Turks to EU would boost travel significantly I think. -I also do not see this happening in my life time or longer. It might even go the other way and be more stricter. And IMHO it has nothing to do with the current government in Turkey. It has to do with economics. With per cap...
Jump to postThanks for the new thread. Happy New Year Turkish Aviation fans :) 16 years of "Turkish Aviation" threads and look where we are: Pretty much all TK wishes came true or close.... Jump to post2nd runway at SAW operational after 13 years of construction, today
I can't see any movements there. Any more info when original runway's work will begin, 2nd runway will be used..
Thanks.

No visa required for tourists from these 6 countries: (not sure starting when)
USA, Canada, UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Saudia Arabia

Today's news from the Ministry of Transportation: 2nd runway at SAW will be operational next week, Dec 25th. Jump to postMmmmm, interesting for Icelandair to fly to IST. No Business pax, No Cargo, No connection flights beyond IST. Those are the reasons TK did not try this long segment in the past, similarly to Palma, Canary Islands and such. Maybe the economics of new aircraft types make it possible. Stil, easier for ...
Jump to postAs expected, SAW 2nd runway will not be in service next month.
Latest excuse, some tall buildings nearby are too tall. So even the runway be operational there is a NOTAM for not to use, until end of Feb.
IST completed in 4 years, SAW's 2nd runway deliberately delayed for over a decade
Congratulations to TK and Airbus.
And just to think, a dozen years ago the title would have been “yet another political decision by TK, splitting orders”
Congratulations to TK and Airbus.
350-1000!!!
Tolgaozbek also reported this.
a.net member “wing”, posted on Facebook that he piloted the return flight of TC-LOI today to the new owners. He says this plane flew last 1.5 yrs ago.

Jump to postRecently I was on an OS intro EU flight, first in 20+ years :) So, it is nice to compare OS and TK. What a difference in online experience. Jump to postI still love those J seats on the 77W fleet. What airline do you get 4 windows to yourself at a Business seat?
About this lease order. Congratulations to TK. 12 year lease is a long time, almost lease to own situation.
There is a first for everything. Sitting on board a AJet at SAW taxiway, full domestic flight.
