RE: Who Does Flight Planning In The Military?

Answer to the original question: It depends.... AMC aircrew on a TACC mission will have a flight manager (similar to a dispatcher except they are not licensed and/or do not share responsibility with the PIC if anything is screwed up or goes wrong). The flight managers are all at Scott AFB in <acrony...

RE: Question About Holding Patterns

Don't forget under ICAO rules, a standard hold is 1 minute on the outbound leg of the hold as opposed to the US standard of 1 minute inbound.

IMHO this is a better procedure and is much easier as it involves a lot less thought - you just time one minute outbound.

RE: Will KC-10 Be Upgraded To MD-10 Flightdeck?

Having more fuel tanks doesn't necessarily equate to a more complex system, especially in a system where the tanks gravity feed to each other. While the -135 may have more tanks, the -10 can hold much more fuel overall. Also, the -10 has more transfer pumps and more ways to manually move fuel and du...

I think it makes perfect sense for the USAF to request the new tanker be a mutli-role tanker. While the KC135's primary role is as an airborne refueler, it does also have several secondary roles. Several squadrons are involved in the medevac business, and occasionally the KC135 will do cargo mission...
