Not sure if making money, but Amaszonas Uruguay flew their only plane quite often in repatriation flights during the pandemic.
Jump to postTAP sometimes has very low fares but for strange routings...last year I bought a ticket GRU-MAD // MXP-POA for only U$D 278...including checked bags.
Jump to postI´ve seen very interesting fares from deep South America to MIA, in example, SCL-MIA roundtrip for less than U$D 200, or MVD-MIA for less than U$D 300. But you´re gambling on them...a friend o mine bought SCL-MIA for that fare and his flight was cancelled...so now he has to pay a higher fare to fly....
Jump to postThis is very dangerous. They´re playing with luck. It reminds me the Aerosucre accident in Puerto Carreño. Unfortunately, they haven´t got that luck.
Jump to postFor this year, I´ve planned a trip to Egypt from Uruguay. A return ticket MVD-CAI was about U$D 1500. Bought two separate tickets: GIG-CAI-EZE for U$D 700 (BA) and MVD-GIG / EZE-MVD for U$D 300 (AR). So U$D 500 on savings for buying separate tickets. And this is for just one ticket...for the whole f...

Gonzalo, by the way, IDP are not required in the Caribbean Islands...you can rent with your local license. Renting a car or a jeep or a buggy for the day is very common for cruisers...and no reservations are required.
Jump to postHello Gonzalo, been on St. Marteen by cruise and moved between the port to Maho by local minivans...very cheap but a bit unconfortable. Jump to postFlown TAP 339 inbound and 332 outbound both economy...actually I prefer the older one. I dislike the very small tables in 339 seat. Almost impossible to eat.
Jump to postDomestic (Schengen) to Intl isn´t a big mess. However, the inverse way (Int´l to Schengen) is the real problem. Expect +1:30 hrs. just to clear inmigration if you haven´t an European passport.

PTY-SFO is a little longer I believe...
So AFAIK Copa's longest 738 current routes are: SFO, EZE, ROS, GIG and SCL, all over 6hs.
A more interesting question is how the emergence of long range narrowbody aircraft (like the A321NEO XLR) will effect Copa's hub operations. I can imagine that at some point in the future many routes won't need that stop in PTY when flying between South America and North America. Please correct me ...

I think a hub in Senegal or nearby could take big advantage of the A321XLR to connect South America with Europe, similar of what COPA does.

In South America, I strongly dislike GRU...connecting from international to domestic or viceversa is a pain...bad signage, lonk walking, rude staff...
On the other hand, SCL is my favourite.
Passenger service on 747 in MVD is long gone...As far as I can remember, last 747-400 operator was KLM somewhere in the 90´s. We ocassionally see freighter jumbos but not scheduled...
Jump to postAR1457 from Salta to Aeroparque was the one diverted to Montevideo. Jump to postHi guys, Thanks for your responses. I was not aware of TACV as it`s an unheard airline south and west of Brazil. Jump to postHello all,
I´m just wondering the possibility of an airline choosing an airport and create a hub wich works in similar ways than the Copa model in PTY, but connecting Europe with South America. Is it feasible? Which airport can suit this airline? And which aircraft/s?
According to Colombian authorities, the flight plan that they received was different from the flight path the airline actually took. According to flight plan on file, lamia was suppose to be coming from Cobija, but it instead flew straight from Viru Viru. Astonishing. Who is in charge of sending th...

This accident also affects me a bit - the first time I flew in a jet airiner, it was either a RJ85 or a RJ100. should this small confusion made the difference between making or not making it over the top of the hill? IMHO, that's one of the smallest issues here. ATC didn't have the full picture any...

Jump to postWow...with the flight plan in sight, I can see something bigger than to blame for this only to the pilots and the airline. What about the Bolivian authorities?
