Re: SAS opens a new long-haul route to the USA. Will fly from Copenhagen to Atlanta

I'm not overlooking the role of a hub (ATL), I just don't think it's that important in this case. SK has been flying to EWR for 30 some-odd years. They had equity relationships with CO and then codeshare with UA. That relationship likely covered 98% of all onward connection traffic, except for the ...

Re: SAS opens a new long-haul route to the USA. Will fly from Copenhagen to Atlanta

No offense, but we're back in the land of magical thinking. SAS is a basket case. Teaming up with Delta and connecting garbage traffic flows over ATL vs EWR/ORD/IAD (which cities have overwhelming higher local demand and yield). doesn't make SAS's balance sheet any better. I don't think the JV make...

Re: SAS opens a new long-haul route to the USA. Will fly from Copenhagen to Atlanta

I'm surprised DL doesn't already serve Scandinavia from ATL - its biggest hub? But not it's biggest international hub, ATL is mostly a domestic hub. DL's largest international hub is JFK. And DL already flies JFK-CPH, albeit seasonally. Expect it to go year-round as SAS joins SkyTeam. I mean, the U...

Re: SAS opens a new long-haul route to the USA. Will fly from Copenhagen to Atlanta

Indeed, a key item being missed by many in this thread is that SAS (on longhaul) wants to move away from its fatal over-reliance on Scandinavian point-of-sale travelers. It's the North American side of the Atlantic that has overwhelmingly driven growth and profits in TATL flying post-pandemic; Scan...

It worked in Boston. 20+ years ago some people thought it was crazy that Delta was building their own brand new terminal.
