It is oversharpened, too dark and the contrast is too high.

Under good conditions you don't need an IS. I would recommend the 70-200 2.8 which is a much better lens in my opinion.

Hi Andrew, I can't open your pictures and so I can't say anything about the quality. I have the 100-400 M2 and I use it with the 5D3 and the 72. The lens offers a great result and I like this lens very much. I would advise you to send your camera and your lens to Canon for adjusting. Klaus

RE: Choosing Lens For Canon EOS Rebel - Beginner

I would suggest to go for a bigger camera model like the 60D. I saw it at B&H for only $649. The reason for this recommendation is that you will probably buy a bigger lens in the future (like 100-400) and you cannot handle those small camera bodies really well with those heavy lenses. I won't bu...

if you use the "Equalize-Function" in Photoshop you can check if the picture is grainy. I have not checked your picture but it looks dark due to the bad weather.

RE: Canon 70-300 F.4 5.6L Is

I have the 70-300L lens and I can recommend it. The lens is sharp and very small. On the other hand I also have the new 100-400 II lens and this one is much better than the 70-300L. So think about which focal length you will need in the future...

First of all I am not familiar with the SFO area so I write only about the selected lens. Hi Nico, I think the 700D is a great camera for beginners and you can't do anything wrong. The only point that I would think about is the size of the body. The 700D body is very small and if you maybe would like to buy some heavy "L-Lenses" in the future, it would be better to have a bigger body. So...
