Yep. The very same crew but not all the passengers were the same; some took other flights out of NRT. I was in it and landed at 08:25 this morning as UA 2714.

Here is the update from the flight crew. Actual distance/time from diversion point was about 5 hours to HNL and a little under 4 hrs to NRT. SO NRT was chosen. That map is not correct as the normal route to sfo is not that must west. The diversion was 3.5 hours of flying from the normal route.

Hello Almost 7 hours into the flight, crew initiated. 3.5hour diversion to NRT. Landed around 20:00, all passengers and crew overnight we due to crew time out and lack of alternate crew. I believe it is not X anymore as it has been officially 'launched', and designated 777-8 and 777-9. Besides, it is a derivative of 777 so no new moniker is needed. It is important for certification purposes too, as it would be incremental certification. Am I wrong here??

I agree that the new one is bland. They could have used more metallic yellow (kind of corn husk) and the current underbelly yellow with a gentle cheat-line with the royal coat=of-arms on the tails to make it even more 'royal'. The new one looks like a temp lease with initials glued on. UGLY.
