Re: WestJet Suspending YQB, YFC, YQM, YYG & YQY and Significantly Reducing YHZ & YYT

My wife is from YHZ and we currently live in ATL. For the first time in over 20 years she didn't get to go home for a summer visit. And her mom is sitting in her bubbled house going crazy because she can't see any family. Hopefully it opens up soon. The cure can't be worse than the sickness. As a C...

Re: OAG Changes 9/29/2020:STOP THE BLEEDING!;B6 Adds BDL Routes;DL Adds SLC-ANC,FLL-LAX,PVD Gone till March;UA Adds EWR-

SLC-ANC has been an interesting route to watch. Pre-merger it would run 3x daily during peak season. After the merger when MSP was brought into the fold, it dropped to 1x daily. Then with the buildup of SEA it went seasonal - and then I believe it was dropped completely last year. Glad to see it ba...

Re: Beirut Airport damaged by downtown explosion

I'm trying to understand how it could have caused that damage at the airport, which is so far away. I think this is perhaps falling debris (like a container, perhaps). Could be falling debris, too. Initial reports say that we are talking a kiloton-equivalent, or thereabouts, of energy in that explo...

Re: Delta plans to emerge a "smaller" carrier

I saw the new smaller Delta first hand today. I work in IT. We had 530 people put in for the package. We had a conference call for our group this morning to say goodbye to those who chose to leave. One of the harder things I've done in my 33 years at DL. We've had almost entire groups of departments...

DL had a big expansion to secondary Europe in that era: Kiev, Bucharest, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Dusseldorf, Lyon... Very little of it lasted. AA's European route retreat is only a start. NA>Europe cruise passengers skew old. Destinations which may have been viable from seasonal cruises are likel...

Re: Viability of Eastern Europe for the US3

DL used to do JFK-KBP prior to 2008. However, they ended that route due to lack of business traffic between the region and the USA. I think all Eastern Europe will have this issue for US3. DL had a big expansion to secondary Europe in that era: Kiev, Bucharest, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Dusseldorf,...

I started with DL in 1984. Running flights that went ATL-MOB-SHV-MLU-DFW were the norm back then. It makes a lot of sense to run those types of flights again in my opinion.

I started on the ramp for DL in 1984. I loaded a bunch of L1011's to SJU and HNL that first summer. I think HNL started in 1984. But I was 18 and just happy to be loading planes. I wasn't sure of much else. But I think HNL non stops started in 84 or maybe 85.

It wasn't always that way on DL on 757's. I was a gate agent back in the 80's and 90's and most of the time back then we used 1L. Not sure when they figured out the 2L door made more sense as I moved on to other areas.

I flew out of DUS last Thursday and saw a LH A380 and a 747-8 lined up behind us on takeoff. Do those aircraft fly there normally or where they there perhaps for maintenance?

Cameras covering the 24 Hours of Daytona captured a Delta A220 taking off from the nearby airport -- a training or orientation flight, perhaps? Delta calls them 'round robin' flights. Strange, "round robins" are generally two stops and back, example - PHX-TPA-MCO-PHX As someone mentioned the ATL-CMH-ATL is called "out and back" That was back in the day. Those types of flights are pretty rare now. These new 'RR' flights ...

L1011-500 was indeed a shrink. I used to load them on the ramp back in the day. The tail section was shorter and you had less room to work with when hooking up your container loader. You had very little margin for error..

Eastern did it in ATL all the time. I was amazed the first time I saw it. I used to work the ramp for DL. I watched two EAL DC-9's back into each other once. They didn't cancel either flight. This was around 1985 or so.

Delta ordered it to specifically fit into LGA gate spaces because it was replacing L-1011's. I'm sure the wing design has something to do with it's range and altitude 'problems'. It wasn't originally designed to fly JFK-LHR shuttle missions.
