2 weeks into the year, and I have my first few booked, with several in the planning stages: March: (Both booked) IAD-CLT - PSA CR9 CLT-DEN - AA 321 DEN-DFW - AA 321 DFW-IAD - AA 321 -- DCA-CLT - AA 319 CLT-GNV - PSA CR7 GNV-CLT - PSA CR7 CLT-DCA - AA 319 April: (Planned) DCA-DFW-COS r/t on AA May: (...
Jump to postI had something similar happen to me once on American - it was one of those days with bad weather and delays up and down the entire east coast of the US. I had a layover in CLT, and the flight before mine was delayed, and my flight had started to take delays as well. The agents made a blanket announ...
Jump to postA fun little report - thanks for sharing.
And Let's Go O's! (from an O's fan in NoVA)
My corporate travel office once tried to book me DCA-SFO-DAL on Virgin America because it was cheaper than the DCA-DFW nonstop on American. I pointed out that to make the meetings I was travelling for, I'd have to leave a day earlier and the extra hotel night negated the airfare savings. Needless to...

Jump to postHands-down for me is the old NY Air flight IAD-ISP - it would make visiting family on Long Island so much easier. I'd also accept the USAirways Express DCA-ISP flights. I've done BWI-ISP on Southwest, but by the time I drive to BWI and deal with everything there, I'd be better off just driving the w...
Jump to postNice report - thanks for sharing. Always like seeing reports out of my home airports. And as a NoVA resident, I agree - give me Dulles any day of the week over DCA!
Jump to postDoes anybody know the curfew hours for DCA? I saw a Southwest flight arriving a couple of nights ago around 1:30 am.. Don't recall ever seeing a flight that late.. There isn't a true curfew, per se. There is a nighttime noise rule in effect that sets specific limits aircraft must meet to operate be...
Jump to postI've done it a few times; I flew a PSA CRJ900 N561NN IAD-CLT 8 days apart back in 2017; I also flew another PSA CRJ900 N597NN IAD-CLT about a year apart in 2016 / 2017. The winner was an AA MD-83 N9405T which I've flown IAD-DFW 3 times between 2014-2016.
Jump to postThe Washington Post this morning has an article about Tailwind starting seaplane service from NYC to Washington: https://www.washingtonpost.com/transportation/2022/04/29/seaplane-new-york-washington/ I had thought they were planning to do so pre-pandemic, and were going to fly from IAD to their 'hub...

An airline can have a corporate client, but employee compliance can be another matter. I was approached once by a travel management company to provide discounts to their client. I asked how much business will they give me in return and I the reply was nothing is guaranteed. I told them not to waste...

Hasn't Airbus been trying to get into this combined space for years now with their A320m3 concept? This is why the German P-8 buy was so disappointing to Airbus / the French Ministry of Armed Forces; they were hoping to get the Germans to co-fund the ASW variant as part of the French Atlantique repl...
Jump to postWow - crazy luck on this trip. Goes to show how much situational awareness can help in these situations. Thanks for sharing!
Jump to postNot as good as some of the others here, but I once flew IAD-HPN on Independence Air for $25. Usually I paid $75-100 each way. With fares like that on a CRJ it's no wonder they folded as quickly as they did!
I've also flown Southwest a few times on their old $29 'Wanna get away' fares

Thanks for the feedback! Nice trip report. A lot of times when flights going to ORD divert to MKE they end up putting everyone on buses to get them down there. I'm sure you're grateful you didn't end up in that situation. I will admit, if we had actually pulled into a gate in TUS, I was seriously ey...
Jump to postThis was my first business trip (remember those?) in over a year, thanks to the pandemic. It was scheduled less than 2 weeks before departure, so finding flights that were within my company's cost guidelines was a bit of a challenge, hence the odd routing. I was also scheduled for my first flight on...
Jump to postShort list for me; only 2 I can think of:
Denver Stapleton
Hong Kong Kai Tak
Some intriguing options there.
Still think the CRJ is overpriced at $61 though.
For me, anything from the E170/175/190/195 family or DC-9 family (DC-9/ MD-80 / MD-90 / 717). I also think for long-haul flights nothing can beat the 767 for comfort in the back.
Jump to postJFK? I didn't think they were ever that large there? I'd be surprised there isn't a NYC airport on the list otherwise.
You said there's a real sleeper on the list, what about BUF? Didn't they get really big right around deregulation?
I'm guessing maybe LGA and MIA with TPA as an outsider for the last 3
Jump to postI live 6 miles from Dulles, so the majority of my commercial flights have been out of there, but I've also taken ground transport to DCA and BWI for flights (even wrote a TR many years ago that started with my Metro trip to DCA). When does that train linking dulles to the city open? They're hoping by next spring, but given all the construction issues that project has had, I'm still doubtful. There is also the fact that if taking the Metro between DCA and IAD, it won't be a single-seat trip; you'll have to change trains at t...
Jump to postI've had 2 - oddly enough, both were in the summer of 2001... #1 - Flying JFK-LHR on VS, was supposed to get my first A340 flight, but the equipment was subbed out last-minute for a 747-200. It wound up being my last Classic 747 flight, as the return was a 747-400. I wound up getting my first A340 f...

HPN by a long shot. I used to travel to Stamford on a regular basis and it is much more convenient. From EWR and JFK you're looking at an hour-plus drive at the best of times and I've had a 2-hour drive to JFK from Fairfield on more than one occasion. LGA isn't as bad, but take advantage of AS joini...

Jump to postJust flew out of IAD on early Wednesday morning, 1:30am.. Noticed a BA A350K overnighting at the gate. Is this normal? I don't recall the European carriers overnighting at IAD in the past. No - BA is doing a weird aircraft rotation with their IAD flights - the aircraft sits a whole day at IAD. Basi...
Jump to postIs the assumption that all remote hardstand boarding will be gone as far as American is concerned? Given that the hard stands were the exclusive domain of the CR2s, E145s, and (sometimes CR7s), is it envisioned that the larger E-jets will use the new concourse as well? That's my understanding; the ...

Only got to fly one BA 757 - G-BIKY in August 1998 from LHR-MAD as part of a JFK-LHR-MAD itinerary. She was wearing the lovely 'Romania' World Tail at the time. At the time I was thrilled to see one of BA's A320s at LHR during my layover, now that's all you'll see. I guess that's 'progress'
