Re: Time For Delta To Consider New Airline Partners?

I've seen something strange, not sure if it's just me or a pattern really does exist. I've noticed that a lot of the airlines that DL has invested in directly have filed for some sort of bankruptcy or court protection. Am I just missing other carriers or is this a pattern of carriers invested in by...

Re: Time For Delta To Consider New Airline Partners?

It’s not because they are terrible airlines but because the demand across the globe has radically declined in a very short period. That is very revisionist history. Last profitable year JV Partner VS = 2017 AM= 2016 VA = 2012 AF/KL = 2019 (lost money in 2018 though) KE = 2016 AZ = a very long time ...

Re: Time For Delta To Consider New Airline Partners?

Is it time for Delta to look into either leaving SkyTeam, drop and/or add new JV partners and overall new partners? Delta’s current partners of Aeroméxico, Virgin Atlantic, LATAM, and Virgin Australia are not in the best financial situations. And their CEO Ed Bastian has said that SkyTeam has not f...

Re: AA reconsidering seatback video screens

AA if figuring out that their product is more than transportation if you want to be seen as a “premium” airline. Business travelers like seat back IFE because it gives them the option to have something playing in the background while leaving their tray tables free for their laptops and food/beverage...

Re: Rumor: Aeroméxico to file for Chapter 11

I mean it is Swissair got hit because they spent all their reserves buying other airlines and was the major creditor to said airlines, Delta basically never loans money to its JV partners and while Delta is losing the value of its shares I suspect most of these deals have already paid for themselve...

Re: Rumor: Aeroméxico to file for Chapter 11

I find it interesting that people are forgetting that a lot of countries have almost completely closed their borders to foreign nationals and demand is down to only 15-20 percent of normal. It is not surprising that even well funded airlines are struggling in this unprecedented market reality. If yo...

Re: Will the A330neo ever become as successful as its predecessors?

The A330neo will most likely be successful. It’s unlikely to be a smashing success and sell 1,000+ frames. It’s development costs were vastly less than the A350 and 787 because the A330neo is a simple derivative and not a clean sheet design therefore it doesn’t need to sell massive amounts to be “su...

Re: Rumor: DL looking to trade 717s for 737 Max

I think Boeing makes money on 717 support, otherwise they wouldn’t provide those parts and services. Nevertheless, RR would never let the 717 program be terminated early. They desperately need the cash flow. Who said they seats can’t be modified? Even if they do need to be replaced, it’s much, much...

Re: Rumor: DL looking to trade 717s for 737 Max

How much could Boeing save per year, if they could stop the entire 717 service operations immediately incl. the scraping of all spar parts, simulators etc.? If all 717 operators would return their planes and switch to 737MAX, they would still earn the service fees for a similar number of airplanes....

Re: Rumor: DL looking to trade 717s for 737 Max

The real issue to me is the seat issue. Can DL and Boeing get the FAA to delay the requirement of replacing the seats? With the current operating environment the FAA might delay or modify the ruling. Even a year of two delay could be extremely beneficial. If they can’t then it would seem the 717 is...

Re: Rumor: DL looking to trade 717s for 737 Max

DL will probably drive a hard bargain with Boeing. I doubt DL wants to truly rid themselves of the 717 but the lease rates are most likely too high for the current environment. I would expect DL to attempt to renegotiate the leases as the come up to get the best deal. If they don’t like the outcome ...

Re: WN looking at A220

WN has over 750 aircraft and is still growing. Adding a second fleet type wouldn’t be that difficult and could provide them with a better aircraft to serve smaller markets that they can’t now. It’s a long shot but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.
