By the looks of the photo, the manual gear extension handle has already been pulled (open nosegear doors). Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out the left MLG uplock was incorrectly installed.

Does anyone know how far up the East Coast tonight's Atlas V rocket launch from Cape Canaveral will be visible? Where can you find the launch trajectory? Sometimes we can see the Florida launches all the way up here in the Mid Atlantic region and I'm curious if tonight's will be one of them.

An interesting postscript to this accident was that Eastern was sued by one of its pilots, Daniel Gellert. He experienced irregularities with the L-1011 autopilot altitude hold function which had disconnected on him due to an accidental bump. He was able to duplicate the same scenario that happened ...

Drive By Wire Throttle Systems

I've seen several late model cars equipped with drive by wire cable-less throttle control systems. Does anyone have experience with the reliability of these systems? If they are as colicky as the SBW system on the CRJ-200, I'll avoid them at all costs. Any ideas?
