Thanks for all your input everybody! Does anybody have any sample images (not necessarily uploaded to a.net) taken with either the <acronym title="Salta - General D Martin Miguel de Guemez (SAL / SASA), Argentina AND San Salvador - El Salvador International (Comalapa / Cuscatlan) (SAL / MSLP), El Sa...Jump to post
I'm afraid my budget won't stretch to the G series (its definitely on my wishlist though!!). DL767captain do you have any idea if the 70-300mm you use is as sharp as the 55-200mm at 200mm focal length? I'm currently leaning towards the 75-300mm as a starter zoom. Am I right in thinking that its bett...Jump to post
Hi all, I recently bought a Sony a200 (taking advantage of the huge price-drop before the new entry levels are released) and I currently only have the kit lens. Obviously I'm looking to upgrade my lens primarily for aviation (and a little wildlife) photography. I've read reviews, primarily from dyxu...Jump to post
I'm looking at investing in a Sony A200 soon, as much as the range of Sony lenses may be limited it mustn't be forgotten that the Sony alpha cameras can use old Minolta lenses which can be found cheap on eBay (and from reviews I've read they are wonderful lenses!). With reference to your budget: Son...Jump to post
It seems this exact topic is being discussed in another thread, apologies.Jump to post
Many thanks for all of your quick replies! At the moment then I will probably opt for the basic Sigma 70-300mm. I have read many reviews and a lot of people comment on the softness at high focal lengths (which is surely where most of my aircraft photos will be) and also that the quality is a little ...Jump to post

Hi All, Hopefully somebody can give me some advice. I'm considering venturing up to Wales to go and spend a day in/around the Mach Loop (with the primary aim of getting some decent photos of course!). However, I've only recently got into aviation photography and as I'm a lowly student the extent of ...Jump to post
Thanks for the book reccommendation, I should have it by monday! I have indeed checked the flightglobal website. The majority of the drawings they store online are simply pictures. The type of cutaway I am looking for has systems on the aircraft 'numbered' and descriptions around the drawing (I link...Jump to post
Does anybody know where I might find detailed cutaways of civil jet aircraft? I know that there are cutaways on the flightglobal website but what I'm looking for are more detailed cutaways than are provided there. The cutaways you get in the magazine are sometimes 'numbered' which locate the aircraf...Jump to post
Quick question that, I admit, sounds a little silly but it is a genuine, serious question: Has there ever been a civil scheduled (or charter) flight which has utilised air to air refuelling? There is something in the back of my mind telling my I heard something about this being tried out at some poi...Jump to post
The MD-90 uses the same engine as is offered for the A320 family of aircraft; the V2500, albeit a derated version of it. My question is when the engine is mounted on an MD-90 do they use the same attatchments? i.e. I...Jump to post
D'oh...now I feel stupid. Just wishful thinking then I suppose, unless we have in our midst one very talented teenager!!!
Hi 744Flyer, I had the same problem recently. I'm assuming you're using Photoshop Elements 6, this advice is based on that version: Go to Image -> Resize -> Image Size That will bring up the relevant box. (You can also just press Alt+Ctrl+I) It lets you change the dimensions of the photo. To change ...Jump to post

I know this doesn't really have a chance, I'm just looking for some constructive criticism. I would feel privelidged taking my first aviation photos in such company! I would feel slightly embarrassed, however, using my P&S Canon and with my lack of photography knowledge thus far!
I did not expect to create such an active topic! Thanks for all your replies, I expect I'll be heading down at some point in the not too distant future armed with your advice!
Hi all, I've recently got into aviation photography and to get me on my way I purchased a Canon S5 IS on the advice of some of you here (...Jump to post
Thankyou all for your help. I was shooting at ISO 80 the whole day so it seems my camera simply wasn't able to do what I had in mind in this case. Seems as though I might be migrating to full DSLR a little sooner than I'd expected!

I have the good fortune of being able to attend both the Farnborough airshow and the Fairford airshow this year in the UK, does anybody know what the best radio frequencies are to listen to? It sounds like you're suffering from phugoid oscillation:
That might help your understanding of what's going on and why.
there looks to be a different direction of rotation of the propellors depending on where they are (anticlockwise/clockwise)? noticeable because of the heavy 'screw' of them. Is that unique to the A400M or is it just that I've not noticed that before becuase I've never seen props quite like those? i ...Jump to post
