In the current hiring environment you will not have an issue getting hired at a regional airline. While being a regional airline pilot is not your goal, your training record at the regional airline will become more important than your GA training record People fail their initial CFI or CFII check ri...Jump to post
Pilots do test fly an aircraft before taking delivery of a new aircraft. Write up a squawk sheet of items to be resolved before the aircraft is transferred from the manufacturer to the airline. On one delivery test flight the depressurization didn’t keep the cabin below 15000 like it was supposed to...Jump to post
There may be plenty of airports with NPA. But if the airline is not authorized for NPAs then there is no opportunity to fly LOC VOR or NDB approaches.
It is the same at my carrier. We are not authorized to fly LOC VOR NDB. So no VDP to calculate or make a decision about
Fast food doesn’t spoil; something has to first be fresh before it can spoil. There’s many times I’ve gotten food at airport intending to eat it when I get to the airplane. But preflight ends up taking a little extra longer and I forget that I had gotten food and it’s been sitting on the side conso...Jump to post

After 30 years flying jets I recently took up glider flying. In the beginning my glider rudder use was appalling to say the least. I had to re learn how to properly use the rudder again. Very humbling. That is what the yaw string is for. It’s the most accurate instrument on the glider. If you’re of...Jump to post
Just because the news article mentions gender of the pilots doesn’t mean you have to continue perpetuating it
Plenty of flights where male pilots leave the landing gear down for whatever reason and their gender doesn’t get mentioned.
Do you always use flaps to slow? Technique I was taught was to bum around at Flaps 1, then extend further at the S and F speeds unless you really need the drag, but the boards are pretty effective for that if memory serves. I'm curious. At what purpose/reason you will use flaps to slow the aircraft...Jump to post
I’ve always waited until 10kts below flap limit speed to extend the flaps as that is company procedure. For the A320 Vfe Flaps 1 is 230kts, Vfe Flaps 2 is 200kts, Vfe Flaps 3 is 185kts, Vfe Flaps Full is 177kts. So the flaps come out at 220kts, 190kts, 175kts, and 167kts. I use the flaps to slow fro...Jump to post
I use flaps to slow the aircraft when ATC doesn't specify a speed to fly on approach.
I'd wager it's personal technique.
But the landing gear works better
I also use the landing lights as well. Speed brake is one of the last things - i usually use it to correct vertical profile vs airspeed
It’s there. There’s nothing the pilots can do about it. It operates without pilot interaction. Pilots can’t turn it on or turn it off. All they can do is call maintenance if there is an ECAM or EICAS message about it. Regarding stabilizer fuel tanks I’ve heard that one airline asks during the tech i...Jump to post

Your answer lies in paragraph (f) of 61.64 Without flying the 737 or ATR after getting your initial type rating, it should have been issued with the limitation in (f) (2). you’ll need to get 25hrs of supervised operating experience in the aircraft to remove the limitation. Deicing crews are probably using portable handheld transceivers to communicate with aircraft.
I think the limitation for the handheld radio is power out.
There was an airspace rework for central and south Florida that went into effect in August? I think? All of the arrivals and departures are all new.
All of the old departure and arrivals were discontinued.
Looks just like taking off from Las Vegas when OAT is 46C... That's also the first time you ever notice there is a wall at the end of the runway in Las Vegas. - even though you've taken off that same runway for many years. As long as the ASDR is 0 or greater, the aircraft has the takeoff performance...Jump to post
The flaps on a f-18 are automated, You have 3 positions half full auto. Based on the flap setting, the airspeed, the airplane alpha, the flight control system positions the leading edge and trailing edge flaps automatically I guess you could have a system similar to autothrust where TLA tells the sy...Jump to post

Effectively the minimums for most 121 operators is 1000ft AGL not what is published on the approach plate unless the charted minimums are higher. If you don’t have visual conditions you can’t circle. Arguments about what should or shouldn't have happened inside the plane aside is this NK's first major incident (every airline has emergency landings and such but I don't think NK has ever had something like this in the way WN had flight 1455 or B6 had a flight 292) Does this count as a major incid...Jump to post
It depends on ATC flow and airline procedures. During times of high traffic, ATC will strictly dictate specific speeds for aircraft on final (setting up the string of pearls for example), Some examples of speed instructions are "Maintain 250kts" "Maintain 210kts or greater" "...Jump to post

You need two independent electrical sources. So an inop APU doesn’t preclude Cat III operations. If you only have a single electrical source, i.e. IDG 2 disconnected with an inop APU the equipment review for Cat III operations allows Cat III Single (fail passive) approach but not a Cat III Dual (fai...Jump to post
I’m not sure how things work in Europe. in the US ATC is not privatized and there are no user fees to use ATC services. Airports are first come first served as far as ATC is concerned. Wouldn’t want to start at 10000ft. The whole point of the maneuver is to get to MEA or 10000ft whichever is higher so that you don’t need oxygen masks So you can start above 20000ft where depending on the altitude the TAS is probably going to be around 400kts-480kts with an IAS around 250-260-270ish...Jump to post
You should disconnect the association of pitch attitude (whether the nose is nose low or nose high) with flight vector (whether the plane is climbing or descending). Normally nose high the plane is climbing, but a plane with a nose high attitude or nose level can be descending as well. For an a320 f...Jump to post

Don’t really understand that mindset Me neither. Not my rules. It was the airlines rule approved by the FAA. I agree with everything you’ve posted.
