Frontier F9 Announces 15 destinations from EWR

Just received a marketing e-mail from F9 that they're launching service to 15 destinations from Newark, starting Spring/Summer 2020, likely to capitalize on WN's departure. They listed some teaser fares beginning at $15 one way. Destinations are Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Ontario, Dallas/F...

Re: Bird Logos on Asian Airlines

A number of former airlines have used birds as well. Here in the US, Continental had the "thunderbird" logo, Ozark had swallows (symbolizing on-time arrivals like the return of the swallows to San Juan Capistrano), Eastern had a flying eagle which later got stylized, and of course North Ce...

Re: Ironic DL Flight Number

UA has some area code flights as well. SFO-IND is UA 317 (317 is central Indiana area code), while the IND-SFO return as mentioned pays homage to the 500 as UA 500. There are some others - UA 312 is DSM-ORD (312 is the original Chicago area code, and DSM happens to be the Cubs AAA affiliate home, th...

Re: United Airlines "Evolution" to Globe Livery coming in April

Purple (featured on employee tie) and aqua seem to be part of it. The wave appears several times and seems to be part of the branding, so perhaps the aqua wave will replace the gold cheat line (old livery) or gold Boeing wave (787), which would also suggest that aqua might replace gold on the globe....

Re: Passenger gets plane to himself

I was once the only passenger on a scheduled early morning PSM-BED-TTN routing on Pan Am Clipper Connection (Boston-Maine Airways) on a Jetstream. (You mean there aren't hordes of people going from Portsmouth, NH to Trenton, NJ?!) As others have mentioned, I was asked to sit in the back for weight a...

Re: 30+ Year Old Aircraft in Scheduled Passenger Service

Comair (MN) of South Africa still has 7 737-400s in its fleet. A friend was recently on ZA-OAO which conveniently turned 30 today (first flight 3/27/89). As a side note, Kulula has one A320 and one 734 that are both almost at 30 years (29.7 and 29.8 years, respectively).

Re: Indianapolis airport announcement 9am 01/17

Based on MidwestIndy's picture, the flags of Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru (in addition to Canada, US, Indiana, and Indianapolis city) would suggest a Latin American link of some sort. Maybe something like VivaAerobus (they serve Nashville - similar non-hub city with some potential for VFR and ...

Re: Weirdest Connections You've Ever Made

Last year I had to get to Nashville for a class during one of the Country Music festival weekends and the nonstops from NY/NJ were brutal ($350+), so I flew nonstop on UA from EWR-ATL for something like $78 one-way and then took the Boutique flight ATL-MSL-BNA which I think was $102 one-way. Interes...

Re: Jet partially slides off taxiway at DIA

Loads the other way (DEN-TUS) were much higher. Two mainline and two UAX. The morning mainline and both midday UAX were completely full; the evening mainline was at 80% full. Can't blame people for getting away from "freezing drizzle."

Re: Can IAD cut it for a UA SE Hub?

Everyone keeps assuming that IAD could handle all the traffic that is at DCA. http://www.flydulles.com/iad/about-dulles-international Max capacity at IAD is 45 Million according to MWAA. DCA served 24 million last year. IAD served 22 million. That's 46 million. Ummm... In the short term, it probabl...

Re: United, Boutique Air codeshare to grow Denver network

What is Boutique Air exactly? I looked online and are they a charter and regional airline? They’re basically a corporate charter company that also flies EAS routes. Up until now, they’ve had 0 affiliation with any airlines and often use FBO’s for their pax services. They also fly distinctly corpora...

Re: Should airlines share metal to ease hub capacity problems?

I'm not sure if this was what the OP was suggesting, but as I recall in the 90s, Continental had a couple DC-10s that were painted in shared colors, with the CO livery on one side and another livery on the other. I'm nearly sure Alitalia was one and I think there was a Varig plane as well. Maybe tod...

Re: Delta denied boarding compensation max now $9,950

Overbooking of flights is the best thing that ever happened to me. I think for 99% of all overbooking situations, customers that volunteer to get bumped are happy. The airline is happy. and it is a huge win-win for the airlines and the flying public as airlines are able to fill up every seat and sh...

Re: Just how important is overbooking to airlines?

I would also suggest that overbooking flights is required in certain instances for flights to make financial sense. Imagine how many seats would go out empty every day on 6am departures from cities like LAS and MSY if airlines were not able to use their historical data to determine how many no-shows...
