Re: SU / KL IL-62

I have had the opportunity to do half a dozen Atlantic crossings on IL62M in the first part of the 90’s with both Aeroflot and Air Ukraine in First Class and Economy on Air Ukraine and business class on Aeroflot. The later between Montreal and Moscow was interesting because the business class seat w...

Re: JAL pilot 8 times over the limit at LHR

I didn't realize there was a legal limit for pilots (a legal limit above zero that is), but regardless, that's a crazy level the pilot was at. My understanding (I am not a doctor but I have been involved in regulatory discussions on the subject) is a zero legal limit is not practical because some l...

Re: Air Senegal news?

Part of the problem is traffic right - In spite of the Yomoussoukro Declaration which has been calling for open sky for almost 20 years, many States restrict traffic rights to protect their national airlines even though the national airlines is often only a paper airlines.

My underestanding is that it was possible to fly non rev on BA but not on AF. One of my friend who was an AF Captain and had to fly BA to experience Concorde.

Re: airlines weighing passengers ?

I remember being weighted in the mid-70 for a flight between MRU et RRG (Rodrigues) on an Air Mauritius DHC-6. I imagine that they felt that actual weight was more advantageous than standard weight as they were obviously trying to bring all the fuel they could to take into account that landing aids ...

Re: Air Austral at EDFH

The beauty of ICAO code is that it gives you a hint of which part of the world it it located. Of course in the US and Canada the IATA and ICAO code are compatible (ICAO= C or K + IATA Code) but they are the only countries which have access to the last 3 digits of the ICAO Code. The other countries h...

Re: Air France 787-9 Now Flying To London - New pics

I will fly the AF 789 in August between YUL and LYS via CDG - I knew that AF was supposed to operate the 789 to Montreal during the summer bit I was surprised to see that the tag on flight between CDG and LYS was also operated by the 789 rather the usual A32x aircraft. I assume that it is for pilot ...

I flew the Mercure many times between ORY and MRS/TLS/LYS. Generally speaking the pilots loved the airplane (fighter like and fun to fly according to some of my friends who were flying it for Air Inter) but passengers were not as exited by the capacity of the aircraft to accelerate and decelerate qu...

On as slightly different but related subject: Quite few years back, Air Madagascar, Air Gabon and Cameroon Airlines had each one B742 which were on the Air France AOC in addition to their own airline AOC. As a result, Air France was in charge of maintenance and flight crew training for these aircraf...

I flew with GA in November 1995 on CDG-BKK-DPS and back - The outbound flight was on a MD 11 and the flight back on a B744 - I believe (but it is only from a 20+ year memory) that the flight originated in AMS

Let's not forget that they are some aircraft fatal accidents with no or minor damage to the aircraft, They rarely make the headlines and may not even appear in the Aviation Safety Network so it may be difficult to establish a completely accurate list. Typically, they are turbulence related accident ...
