Re: San Diego Aviation Thread - 2019

Without any clear market, cost seems prohibitive. The airport is on a bit of a Mesa. Extending to the west would require considerable fill, business relocation, intrude on a golf course etc. in the craziest scenario part of Palomar Airport Rd may need realignment into more businesses. Not a simple q...

The existing design materials are not digital (according to my understanding) so any rework is going to be complicated. Tooling does not exist, so you need to create the supply chain, the jigs, everything. And in terms of advanced manufacturing methods -- you have to adapt the design to use those me...

It seems like the biggest issues are leased aircraft and the habit / intent of the lessors -- how quickly do they turn them in or retain them in some way. A glut of lease returns could be a major issue in trying to establish a secondary market. The next biggest issue will be availability and cost of...

Upthread someone mentioned that two that came to mind for me: Hawthorne and LAX. You overfly the Hawthorne runway on approach to the south side runways at LAX. Re: More to the Story? United ERJ (swapped for CRJ) turns around from CHA because ERJ-175 "too large to land"

You can't just 'help out'. If something goes wrong during an ad-hoc servicing; what ground rules exist for resolution. Say for example, the 'helper' hits the aircraft with a vehicle. If that happened with the carriers own personnel or contractor, there are rules in place for dealing with the financi...

My max is probably MEL>HKG>LAX>SAN rather than the more direct with Hong Kong excluded. This reduced my fare considerably -- circa $7,000 if I recall. The difference in the distinction to me is that when I hear "Delta Connection", I think "small jet". When it's a mainline DL aircraft, we could be talking about a 777 ending up with deflated tires on takeoff, which I think would be more interesting than it happening to an RJ. Se...
