The Technik Museum Speyer is a technology museum in Speyer, Germany. It houses the only Buran (Soviet Space Shuttle) prototype in the world. The Buran on display is outfitted with 4 exterior turbine engines giving it the look of a space shuttle mixed with an MD80. The Turbine engines were unique to ...Jump to post
My favorite airplane, wish I could ride or at least see one in operation again. I got to ride on the last Delta L1011 to Victorville for retirement on an employee non-revenue flight. A great experience and atmosphere on aboard with cockpit visits and more since pre-9/11. http://www.L1011.homestead.c...Jump to post
While not a traditional "trip report" it's something I think most will find interesting. I was flying from Seattle to Tokyo Narita on May 30 on board Delta's Airbus 350. I was lucky enough to get Delta One seats which is the new lie flat product and Delta's best business class. In addition...Jump to post

Yep - when my 10yo discovered this online it was all over. Of course he didn't have to twist my arm to get my interest!Jump to post
Agree on wind. Also windy when we went up in the supersonics. You could definitely feel the aircraft moving especially high up by the flight decks. A great experience but also makes you a little nervous high up in the air.Jump to post
It would be nice to say I was recently on board a 747-132 as a passenger but this one is a little different. About 45 minutes south of Portland Oregon is Evergreen Wings and Waves Waterpark. What makes this unique and why it's on Airliners.net is the waterpark has a 747-132 on top of it with 4 water...Jump to post
Yea heard a lot of comments about the screaming child and being on the flight was something else. At least it was only a problem on landing. Expecting a few with 450+ pax flying into Orlando on the flight.Jump to post
Sorry for the invalid link above and thanks for correcting. I'm unable to edit but to clarify here's the proper link:
Not a traditional trip report however had the unique opportunity when traveling with a co-worker, and fellow airliner geek, to video our 747 landing in Orlando. We were both seated in Premium Economy in row 14 (opposite sides 14A & 14K) on the main deck. We both did a landing video and edited to...Jump to post
Curios - It's stated in this thread that "Cayman Airways GCM 61%"
TPA has a long history of service with Cayman and MCO can't sustain service with Cayman. What's the connection between TPA and GCM when load factor is 61%? MCO can't support and TPA does but at 61%?
A must see for the aviation and airline enthusiast. The world's only passenger supersonic airliners displayed next to each other and mounted as if they were taking off. You get to go inside and explore the interior of the aircraft also all the way up to the flight deck. The Auto & Technik Museum...Jump to post
My favorite plane. I was lucky enough to fly on the last DL employee flight to VCV. Wish there was one still flying around to catch another ride.
After seeing the TU-144 I did more research and would have never thought is had 2-3 seating I always assumed it was like the Concorde. I saw some pictures and even when touring at the museum you can see the walkthrough cabin bulkhead was off center since the 2-3 seating didn't cetner the aisle.Jump to post
On New Years day final made it to Sinsheim Germany to see the Concorde and Tupolev TU-144 on display at the Technik Museum. Great museum and you actually get to go inside both planes! If poll here was done asking which plane you prefer, it would probably favor the Concorde due to it's longer service...Jump to post
Thanks for the feedback - yea get mixed feedback on the music. The non aviation folks get bored but the aviation folks like the hear the engines (me too). I was at In & Out a few weeks ago. Shouldn't have any problems, everyone it taking pics/video there. The In & Out parking lot says "In & Out Parking Only" so perhaps at certain times parking along the road can be an issue. Maybe buy a drink or food if an issue. I was able to vi...Jump to post
Interesting picture from MCO last week if haven't seen it. Five 747's and an A330, looks like a Virgin Atlantic hub!
Thanks you for all the feedback. Airliners.net is a great community and it exciting to share stuff and hear the comments. Hopefully I'll make some other cool stuff in the future and get to ride another 747! And Belfast was great - highly recommend and no doubt the best Titanic museum which is modern...Jump to post
Virgin Atlantic flight 162/06Jul MCOBFS The 747-400 flight scheduled to at 1815 was delayed almost an hour due to local thunderstorms. There was even a great chance the inbound flight from Glasgow was going to divert to Miami however it made it in as afternoon thunderstorms cleared in Orlando. The f...Jump to post
Great report and photos. I went to the museum several months ago and highly recommend but of course the report conveys that. Nice job and thank you.
I took some video of the museum visit if anyone interested - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0mug1w ... u.be&t=243
I remember the L1011 farewell retirement flight which was essentially a party on board with a hangar reception in Victorville. Not sure if they can top that, what an experience to Victorville.
pics and info from event
Yea without a cargo door imagine a lot of labor and longer turn around times. Probably were limited in many destinations with ground handling equipment in that part of the world making it interesting for loading and unloading since it sits so high up in the air. I guess it would be like loading a se...Jump to post
I always wondered what it would be like to be on a converter passenger aircraft being flown as a freighter. Having recently worked very closely with this there are two major considerations. 1 - Capacity 2 - Facility space Another consideration was security as mentioned however that has been overcome in newer and refurbished designs with bags being merged onto flat plates through a secure wall. Heard about this 4-5 years ago but nothing ever happened. Now looking at the photos online the extra main gear installed is in photos from 2010 so the question now is was this something that "was" planned or is this something now moving forward since it was evident in 2010?Jump to post

As mentioned the last Delta "scheduled revenue flight" was 1949/31JUL 2001 MCOATL. The following day Delta did a United Way fundraiser for employees to ferry the aircraft from Atlanta to Victorville. That was a great trip which occurred just a month before 9/11 so a lot more things were possible inc...Jump to post
