You were just a few feet from the "official" view area, which is where Shaun shot this one. There you can either stand on the green electrical boxes or atop your car for a view over the fence. If you were behind the blast fence you were in the Solar Turbines parking lot. You need to go just a bit fu...

He probably metered off the airplane itself, giving it a more accurate exposure. The light also reflects off the snow/ice, working as a bounce to the underside of the aircraft. Nice composition and effective use of available light.

The "AF1" 747's have that door as a special modification. There are internal stairs to bring you to this point. They also use the "regular" door with air stairs. This was put in for when they go into airports that may not have 747 capable air stairs.

Jump to postI have used both the 400 2.8 and the 500. They are both awesome lenses. I have fallen in love with the 500 and am seriously considering divorce to afford it.
The 737 itself is just a tad blurred compared to the towers. It is also slightly off level. If the a/c in fact is not well focused you are out of luck.
I would crop it much tighter around the a/c.
You might want to post this over in the photography forum as many from there don't look here regularly.

Well so much for offering advice in what I had hoped was a friendly manner. Obviously not. No wonder fewer and fewer photographers are willing to help newcomers.
Enjoy yourself here at airliners.
Your first question is answered in the FAQ's for the site...old and rare means lower standards. Recent photos must meet higher standards. It is poor form to pull a photo out and criticize it/the photographer. Submit your own and let them stand on their own merit. Blurring the back ground is not simp...
Jump to postThe lens is well sealed so I doubt you get dust etc inside the camera itself from the lens. That will all come from changing lenses, especially in a dusty environment.
I have shot with mine at the beach, river, airport, in flight, no problems.
Push pull is interesting to get used to, but you will since you will use this lens most of the time. If you go somewhere dusty keep an eye out for buildup of grit on the lens barrel. SOme people have had an issue with the lens getting "sticky" from grit build up. Also keep an eye on the tightening r...
