You know as a Flight Simmer I am FASCINATED by the technical aspects of this route as its ETOPS 330 (330 minute from nearest diversion airport) as there is literally ONLY ocean between South America & NZ. I've heard rumours NZ has been successful connecting Argentine passengers to Australia & Asia on the South Seas route. With NZ competition, QF/LA fares have come down if you wanted to cross the South Pacific (this route used to be VERY expensive).

Why is the Air France flight to Cape Town only 2x weekly!? I was looking at flights to South Africa and noticed AF flies only 2x weekly while KL flies daily. Being South Africa's 2nd largest city with global demand, surely there's more demand than 2x weekly!?

zeke, Bangalore has become THE outsourcing destination for Western multinationals in Asia with India's low-cost English speaking population of techies and engineers. The costs in India are still significantly lower than in China where they have risen to almost Western levels already.

How is UA doing on their SYD-IAH route!? I know its only 4x weekly now but it has great connections to Latin America like QF has with DFW and a faster way to Eastern North America. The Oil/Gas/Mining now goes PER-SYD/AKL-IAH now.

Except the problem is KL/AF are short on 789's which are needed to launch service to lower demand focus cities. DL has 767/757's which are perfect for the route. KL launching LAS was interesting to me as a low yield leisure route but AF launching DFW to me is a success as the route is high yielding ...

With JL flying Bangalore (BLR) to Tokyo Narita (NRT), I personally believe ANA should be flying to Bangalore too (tons of connecting traffic to North America). BLR is more profitable than Hyderabad they are launching 3x weekly.

STT757, wouldn't up-gauging the PVG (Shanghai) flight to a 77W be cheaper than 2x 77E's!? Or is demand for J class on the PVG route so high they need 2x daily!? Remember China Eastern also flies 2x daily from JFK.

With the age of JVs they don't need to service the market themselves when their partner can do so and they get part of the revenue. UA has a JV with NH, AA with JL and DL with KE. There's overkill on capacity particularly on JFK-ICN with 2x KE A380s. Why does DL need to serve it themselves!?

With AeroMexico using Russian airspace and pushing their B788 to the limit with MEX-ICN non-stop west-bound (similar distance to PEK), if Hainan was smart they'd make their PEK-MEX flight non-stop in both directions weight restricting it west-bound. It would drive higher yields too. CZ has no choice...

The US-Brazil market is like the Europe-South Africa market, both markets driven by VFR and business. BUT both Brazil & South Africa are incredibly dangerous compared to Europe/Asia so naturally there are risks. Whether you go depends on your risk tolerance.

Canada allows international to international sterile transit I believe (and still allows it as French/EU citizens just need a passport check) which is MUCH faster than a whole CBP process in LAX currently.

There's only sevice to Milan in Italy, not Rome which is the opposite of most US cities but Milan has more business traffic. I'd like to see AZ launch SFO-FCO in the summer (just like LAX). Also OS launch SFO-VIE. That's all the service I see coming to SFO.

AA's is definitely better than the crapper old 2-2-2 seats UA is flying over the Pacific (their 787's on their AU routes still haven't been POLARIS'ed) and similar seats on LATAM over the South Pacific.

How come DL185 (ATL-PVG) is not a polar route today but DL583 (DTW-PVG) is!? I find it weird that DL185 has a very long flying time versus DL583 as its not polar. They can probably cut 1 hour off the flying time by flying polar off a flight that is already very long.

How are DL's new TPAC routes doing (ATL-PVG, MSP-ICN)? I believe MSP-ICN is doing better than ATL-PVG as ATL-PVG there's discounted fares ($1178 round-trip in September) and MSP-ICN is always really expensive ($1600+). Plus MSP-ICN is more of a true JV hub to hub route.

Someone mentioned here that Alaska Airlines flew to the Russia Far East in the 1990s. What cities did they serve? What was the equipment? I assume they ended it because it was unprofitable. I believe this was in the era of Russia opening up to the world after the fall of communism.

WN is now on Amadeus Altea which can easily accept foreign currency but the rest of their IT systems can't. They seriously need to accept foreign currency and they will be successful in markets that aren't dominated by American Point of Sale. If Spirit can do it successfully in multiple Latin Americ...
