Re: EVA Air weird routing Paris to Taipei (Taiwanese airlines can now fly over Mainland Chinese airspace to/from Europe!

You're right. My overreaction. It looks like due to the winds they're trying to save costs by avoiding Russian airspace (and using Mainland Chinese airspace which is cheaper than Russian airspace) and other days they use it.

EVA Air weird routing Paris to Taipei (Taiwanese airlines can now fly over Mainland Chinese airspace to/from Europe!?)

I'm planning to fly from Taipei to Paris soon and noticed the weird routing of EVA Air TPE-CDG versus Air France. It seems the Taiwanese airlines CAN NOW FLY OVER MAINLAND CHINESE AIRSPACE TO/FROM Europe but the flight seems to be actively avoiding Russian airspace: https://www.flightradar24.com/dat...

Another vanity route with low volumes. You need high volumes to sustain the high airport charges in JFK. They're better off serving the US from the Western European hubs of LHR, FRA, CDG & AMS.

chepos, that would be smart as AA started the 77W on LAX-HND today. Also AA has to decide whether to route SE Asia (through JL) connections still via NRT or SE Asia/South Asia connections (including India) via HKG instead onto CX and drop LAX-NRT possibly.

The failure of UA on LAX-SIN was not due to demand but according to a route planner here but due to the fact that the flight is long and west-bound UA had to block off ~20 Y seats during the summer and ~40-50 Y seats during the winter on the 789. From what I've heard AA does well to their allied alliance partners hubs (HND/NRT/HKG) so the 77W to Tokyo & Hong Kong will probably stay (they actually sell F/J to HND/NRT/HKG). They may down-gauge ICN/PEK/PVG and make them less than daily.

First of all for the most optimal route SCL-SYD requires ETOPS 330 (like Air New Zealand has on their 772 flying AKL-EZE or LATAM on their 787's SCL-AKL & SCL-MEL) and JNB requires it too I believe for the most optimal route.
