This flight is needed. It seems that after years of talk AI is finally starting to re-start a BOM hub. There are also talks of a second daily BOM-LHR on 788, and 3/wk BOM-JFK/ORD flights both on 77L. LHR and JFK should take off by November/December, while ORD is likely around April/May. I personally...Jump to post
Just did the math, created the following hypothetical winter BOM-USA schedule that would allow daily JFK/ORD on 3 77L:
AI141 2330 BOM - JFK 0545+1 77L D
AI140 0900 JFK - BOM 1020+1 77L D
AI129 1230 BOM - ORD 1700 77L D
AI128 1900 ORD - BOM 2130+1 77L D
Would 2 hour stops at each airport be enough?
Seems that all AI USA flights other than JFK were delayed to 0700 IST today. Perhaps there were issues with multiple 77W's and they had one spare 77L aircraft, which they chose to put on JFK since that is their most important US route. Additionally, VT-ALQ has been stuck at EWR for nearly 2 days now...Jump to post

So it looks like finally a BOM-FRA announcement that isn't a hoax. Let's hope BOM-JFK is true as well; it should depart from BOM in the night and take off JFK late morning to arrive back in BOM before noon (similar to DEL-IAD). I actually think 7x 77L would be best for BOM-JFK as this is a route whe...Jump to post

the 77W cannot do BOM-SFO.
Seems that DXB-EWR is doing well. However, calling Newark a "small city in New Jersey that most Americans have never heard of" is a bit misleading IMO.

I actually think BOM-JFK will simply replace BOM-EWR. Which is a good idea considering UA is upgrading the route to 77W with Polaris and EK started EWR nonstop flights within the past 3 months. What was once not a very competitive service is now much more competitive, and AI might as well serve JFK ...Jump to post
Again, the only reason it's not an option is because you don't want it to be an option. Look at what they did at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport for example, they've built two railways on top of each other. The old one with the regular trains is at ground level whilst the new high speed airport expres...Jump to post
As stated in previous thread it's a temporary reduction for few months while also an upgauge of capacity going from 77L to 77W. Yeah, glossed over that. Can the 77W make AUH-LAX nonstop? IIRC this will be the longest scheduled 77W flight to ever be operated by GC distance. If the 77W can (can it?) ...Jump to post
Per Airline Route, EY is reducing LAX service starting on 15 January 2018.

As of now, the flight is bookable daily starting 1 May 2018, though I wouldn't be surprised if this changes after that.
Medium-haul international routes to airports with significant premium passenger demand (like LHR) should be the only international flights out of BOM for AI. The AMD flight was a political concession and should be axed (assuming it is still unprofitable) as soon as possible. I would actually argue ...Jump to post
I actually don't think EWR-DEL is a good idea. Most of NJ population is from BOM/AMD not DEL, and there is already UA DEL-EWR and AI DEL-JFK. I don't know why AI chose to do AMD-LHR-EWR flight instead of AMD-LHR solely, and keep AMD-BOM-EWR. I don't see why anybody would prefer a same-plane service...Jump to post
By the way, what does AI plan to do with all these excess 77W's? On the best of days, they use only 8/12 77W's !!! Sell them, probably. Perhaps a Deja-Vu to their sale of the 77Ls. Many airlines are still looking to add B77W to their fleet because it fits their immediate needs better. DEL-BOS and m...Jump to post
Seems AI could have used some of the 77Ls they gave to EY. AI's small subfleet of 77Ls (8 aircraft at its peak) was ostensibly bought specifically for North American routes. I think much of it had to do with them intending to operate/start operations on nonstop flights to US from BOM/BLR instead of...Jump to post
Hi everyone, I'm looking for the stats of traffic between main Indian Airports and Main Europe Airports. I did some research on the net but didn't find anything relevant. Would someone here got some datas? Many thanks, I would imagine DEL-LHR is the busiest India-EU sector, followed closely by BOM-...Jump to post
They need the 77L to start LAX, that's probably why. Even though AI would need to restrict DEL-IAD (like it probably already does on DEL-ORD), 77W is more dense than 77L, and 77L is too premium of a configuration for most routes AI flies IMO. So a restricted 77W may not be that much less economical ...Jump to post
TLV? im suprised UAL is not sending the 77W to DEL or BOM, given the fact atleast once a weak they do not load 1 or 2 pallets due to weight restrictions on 772. There is more demand/premium travel to TLV vs DEL/BOM. I do see UA operating 77W to DEL as possibility; BOM is unlikely as AI still flies ...Jump to post
Would love to see LAX to TLV, think UA can make it work. Or if UA has good terms with Egypt Air, then LAX to CAI, rest pax can connect various parts of Africa, and Middle east. I don't know if UA will ever fly LAX-CAI; IIRC they don't fly to CAI at all. I think very soon LY will upgrade TLV-LAX to ...Jump to post
Could an A-330-200 make it from PHL to NRT? Certainly with winds, I'd think it could make it NRT to PHL. It's longer than two of DL's longest A332 flights (SEA-HKG and DTW-PEK) by a little over 100 nm. The newest build A332s can certainly do it, but I'd say AAs should also be able to make it, perha...Jump to post
Should the title be "LH group"? While LH mights tart these flights, I am quite confident they will be turned to EW. If/While they are opereted by LH, will it be on a W shape like MUC-JFK-TXL-JFK-MUC? Does this mean LH is finally starting 2x MUC-JFK, one with A346 and one with A333? IMO MU...Jump to post
BOM has a relatively short runway, so takeoff with B789 may be difficult in winter (due to longer flight time). I don't know why DXB is being switched as well, thoughJump to post

LH is starting 5x TXL-JFK on A333 from 8 November, and also 3x DUS-MIA also on A333.
DUS will really lose a lot of US connections from this event. AFAIK the only DUS-USA that will still operate (and is not AB) is DL DUS-ATL. UA and AA don't operate there. However, I wouldn't be surprised if we see UA/AA start JFK/EWR/ORD-DUS soon.Jump to post
In no way was I expecting in this, I was expecting: NZ AKL-ORD UA SFO-MEL QF SYD-ORD Will be great to see three UA tails in SYD, with no star alliance feed in AU, kudos to UA for holding their own! Yeah surprised they found this more economical than SFO-MEL. SFO-MEL is considerably shorter, and SFO...Jump to post
http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/economy/article/2109436/hong-kong-airlines-adds-major-new-routes-new-threat-cathay The airline plans to start these new routes using their new A350-900. I wouldn't consider SIN-LHR a ULR route. I think the true ULR routes with most competition are LAX-SYD and LAX-MEL.Jump to post
Not a valid argument on almost any level. 1. THE NY airport is LGA. The reason EWR isn't as popular as JFK has to do with several reasons: near UA fortress hub in EWR, better connection opportunities at JFK, traditional airline port of entry. I am not convinced there is any sizable population anywh...Jump to post
For the purposes of this post, I will group JFK and EWR into one metro area, and SFO and SJC as another metro area. In the New York area, EK (nonstop), EY, QR, KE, and even some *A like BR, NH, OZ, SQ, SA only fly to JFK. Some of these airlines have multiple daily flights on aircraft like A380, with...Jump to post
An Indian airline needs to launch BOM-MAN. Now one of the largest unserved India markets in Europe! 9W would be a better bet for this, due to better network at BOM and partner VS at MAN. However, I don't know if there is the transfer traffic to USA to sustain a route, as 9W/VS route well through LH...Jump to post
AI said a while back that they would start a flight from BOM to FRA in July: https://twitter.com/airindiain/status/864810325085794306 Now I know that AI has been adding long-haul only from DEL recently (with the exception of AMD-LHR), and has cut BOM-FRA, along with BOM-HKG/JFK/ORD/CDG around 2009-2...Jump to post
AI144 from BOM to DEL was diverted to AMD after circling DEL for a while. Does anybody know why AI would divert all the way to AMD after nearly reaching DEL, and what the reason for the diversion was?

The only way I see this possible is if the 77W on DXB-IAH is weight-restricted. EK 77Ws are rather dense, and the route is one of the longest 77W flights operated today. Through why can't they operate 77L on the route? Lack of equipment?Jump to post
BNE-ORD is possible with B789, but much of the demand is to SYD/MEL. At that point, AA/QF can route you via one stop at LAX versus what would be 1 stop at BNE. I think the next likely Australia route to be announced could be MEL-SFO (more likely via UA than QF), not any route past the US west coast....Jump to post

I think SJC and EWR nonstops should be considered. Both are secondary airports of main metro areas located near enormous South Asian diasporas. Especially for SFO, is there a case for EY to redeploy the 77L from SFO-AUH to SJC-AUH? As for EWR, there is a similarly large Indian diaspora, and I would ...Jump to post
Interesting, I think this will pick a good amount of demand from LH's prior DUS-ORDJump to post
With 104 additional seats, load controlled B77Ws can be used on any route. Also, higher MTOW is just a paperwork. I would imagine ORD is already operating heavily-restricted on the 77W. There are instances that even EWR had to be restricted (ie not carry luggage) so that it could make the trip. htt...Jump to post
