Potential groundbreaking routes could be:
EWR-AMD 77E (first US3 flight to Ahmedabad, lot of Gujarati population in NJ)
EWR-AKL 789 (NYC-Oceania first flight)
SFO-SGN 789 (Nonstop USA to Vietnam)
SFO-BLR 789 (First nonstop to BLR, tech traffic)
SFO-GRU 789 (NorCal to South America nonstop)
Why is UA cancelling while AC is still flying? Flights (EWR-DEL vs YYZ-DEL) are similar in length... If you look at all DEL- North America flights none of them with the exception of AI's DEL-SFO at this point in time are operating as a nonstop, they all having to make tech stops. AC DEL-YYZ flight ...Jump to post
BLR, MAA, HYD and AMD are perfectly capable of serving UA's needs in the case of an emergency in BOM!! I don't recall UA ever diverting to one of these airports if they couldn't land at BOM, they have an operation at DEL so they many times diverted to DEL due to severe weather and other reasons, ev...Jump to post
I actually don't think BOM will last much longer, especially without DEL. Now BOM is at least 5-6 hrs from the nearest UA destination (SIN), may be risky in case of an emergency. (From personal experience BOM flights would sometimes reroute to DEL if there was an emergency at BOM.) Not to mention fo...Jump to post
Honestly if AI can make BOM-US nonstop I don't know what's stopping then from just shifting DEL-JFK/ORD to BOM-JFK/ORD. There should still be some O/D demand from BOM and now BOM is the best positioned Indian airport for Europe/Africa/NA. UA is going to have a lot of trouble on this route if AI is ...Jump to post
Looks like AI quietly cancelled the AI105 BOM-JFK service all together. Didn't fly today, no scheduled flights showing up later on. This flight is no longer in booking engine. I noticed that as well. Shocker from my pov. AI heard Delta might start so bam they start. The VFR crowd to BOM lives aroun...Jump to post
I was curious if AI should swap in 77L to do DEL-JFK nonstop 10 weekly for the time being, as this is a more pemium route that should be able to be done nonstop both ways even with the Pakistan air closure. It would be about 17hrs flying time. AI could swap in daily 77W DEL-SFO-SHJ-DEL since the pla...Jump to post
Looks like AC BOM-YYZ made it nonstop! That must have been a hell of a long flightJump to post
All US India eastbound flights today seemed to make it all the way, including DEL ORD. What's interesting though is UA is claiming 77E can make the DEL EWR southern routing, don't know about that tbh... It seems VT-ALG is still stuck at SHJ, after AI 174 from SFO. It will probably move after crew g...Jump to post
I have a gut feeling it will be ATL-BOM on A359 starting May or June '19. Sample summer schedule: DL184 ATL 16:40 - 19:30+1 BOM A359 D DL185 BOM 22:00 - 05:10+1 ATL A359 D ATL-BOM is long, but not long enough to warrant a double-night flight like SFO-DEL AI184. Double night seems to be the way to g...Jump to post
I have a gut feeling it will be ATL-BOM on A359 starting May or June '19.
Sample summer schedule:
DL184 ATL 16:40 - 19:30+1 BOM A359 D
DL185 BOM 22:00 - 05:10+1 ATL A359 D
ATL-BOM is long, but not long enough to warrant a double-night flight like SFO-DEL AI184.
Very surprised LAX, over ORD, will be maintaining the NRT flight (in addition to HND). AFAIK NH does ORD-HND already, so only OW would do ORD-NRT (assuming AA doesn't switch also).Jump to post
AFAIK the longest 787-10 flight planned will be UA's EWR-TLV. I believe this is not until late March, however. IIRC the 77W currently on this route will move to TLV-SFO. Any plane's range is going to be significant higher if the cabin is only ~half full. At least TLV-EWR will be in the night so the ...Jump to post
It seems that BOM-EU may overall just be a tough market. It is telling that AF had to drop BOM-CDG and hand it over to Joon, while AF kept BLR. I would imagine after this cancellation BOM will not have a nonstop flight to Southern Europe. Maybe KLM starting 4x weekly AMS-BOM in late 2017 had someth...Jump to post
The only US India that would probably be the world's longest is IAH-MAA. That is not going to happen very soon... Could it be possible that DL is considering LAX-DEL? The route is unserved and should have more O/D (higher yields) to India than ATL. They could use 77L on route and provide needed comp...Jump to post
UA is switching EWR-TLV to 78J. If memory serves me correctly that is a bit longer then SFO-FRA/AMS. Does anyone know of any planned 78J routes longer than that?Jump to post
Not to mention the are routes that UA flies (like to PVG and India) which provide a MUCH better product than MU/AI. It's all relative. Plus Polaris and CX Business won't be that different in terms of quality.Jump to post
Yeah this is interesting. Keep in mind though that I would associate LV with IAG as a whole, not just IB. IIRC BA has never owned/operated the A330. Personally, I think LV will end up choosing the 788. The A338 will force a slightly-lower 8-abreast configuration, while it would be easier to pack mor...Jump to post
As for SFO-DEL, I think the following schedule would have worked a lot more nicely: UA105 SFO 0130 - 0600+1 DEL 789 D UA106 DEL 1100 - 1300 SFO 789 D The fact of the matter is that this flight will primarily be targeted for those ending/starting at DEL. Most who will transfer at DEL will take AI. Bo...Jump to post
In terms of India I would expect UA to start ORD-BOM or SFO-BLR over SFO-DEL. It would be interesting to see them complete directly with 9x AI. What are the odds that AI will shift 183/184 to BLR-SFO, then? They just started BOM-JFK, so I guess a non-stop from a city other than DEL is a possibility ...Jump to post
Was personally expecting ORD-TLV/BOM on 77E, SFO-BLR on 789, and EWR-ICN on 77E. How none of these routes are flown or planned, I don't know. UA and AI competing directly on a route would be interesting. "Historic" and SFO (after the speech started) wanted me to think SFO-BLR nonstop would...Jump to post
I personally think ATL-BOM would work well; not much competition from SE US to India. However, there was speculation that AI launched BOM JFK because it was inevitable at the time that DL was planning the same route, and the route connects 9W with DL hub. Keep in mind that AI lasted longer than DL a...Jump to post
That's nothing but lie flat business class instead of angle flat in the 777s . Rest everything remains the same including 2-3-2 layout. The given aircraft VT ALX contains the same. Did AI refit all 77Ws and 77Ls with lie-flat J? No not all of them . Some of the 77Ws have been refitted . Don't know ...Jump to post
AFAIK all 77Ws are capable of higher MTOW, just need paperwork and payment to GE/Boeing. The only advantage with VT-ALX is clean cabins, which will be a short-term advantage before interiors get trashed by pax. Any idea what happened to the Maharaja Business Class which was announced with such fanf...Jump to post
AI really need to consider to extend this flight to AMD, to fill BOM-AMD capacity and since there is a big GJ population in the NY area. Are they so lazy that they need the same WB to fly them to their final local destination? How difficult is it to walk to another plane in the same terminal. I see...Jump to post
Why not daily 77L since it won't be weight restricted and a business population may prefer the daily services by UA (across the river) and numerous other 1-stop options? FWIW AI is using the high MTOW 77W (777-333), for BOM-JFK. Today's flight was on VT-ALX and it seems that the airline has assigne...Jump to post
UA just posted its SP19 schedule changes. EWR-HKG will go 77W, and BCN, BRU, CDG, FRA, and surprisingly TLV will be operated on 78J.
TLV-EWR is quite long for 78J, am I right?
