Some airlines and analysts are saying traffic will not rebound to 2019 levels till 2025. Until a vaccine is widely available I would agree with that. I think the growth at SEA is exciting, but summer 2021 is a bit optimistic.

If AA choses to go this route they should do it sooner than later while they have cash and hand, and can self finance like they did before. DIP financing will likely be difficult to come by and a DIP may see more value in liquidated assests.

Why would an airline that is struggling to survive be spending money on a brand new airplane? Makes no sense. Part of ANY government assistance should include NO NEW AIRPLANES at all until the TAXPAYERS are made whole and 100% of the government assistance is paid in full!

Actually a good idea, I remember back in the early 80s, AA swapped their 747s for Pan Am DC10s. But give the likely hood of an AA liquidation I doubt any bank holding the liens on the DL 77L would take that deal.

The Boeing CEO stated that one of the "big 3" will go out of business by September, so with the vacuum of traffic from the failed airline the survivors may be able to avoid layoffs. UA may be premature in their statement.
