Guess if LH was offered to take over AZ and turn it into a profitable airline, they would find an internal solution for EN.
The original plan of LH was to have AZ focus on FCO and leave MXP to EW. But now IG has started many routes from MXP and it would be way more difficult as 2 years back ...
Wasn’t the "agreement" between LH (EW) and U2, that EW wouldn’t expand at TXL in favor for U2 and therefore U2 wouldn’t expand in DUS in favor of EW ?Jump to post
Maybe a good add for EW to purchase ZI - build a base at ORY. O&D of Paris region should be strong enough with decent business pax along ethnic / touristic pax.
Otherwise they risk that Norwegian / Level / Easy etc will get stronger at ORY / Paris market.
Not only was JNB recently launched but it will also get a 5th weekly frequency this winter. Maybe the route is not unprofitable, maybe it's just not profitable enough. https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/281890/alitalia-increases-johannesburg-service-in-ns19/ If AZ is dropping JNB alo...Jump to post
Given how large the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale to Europe market is, I am surprised there aren't non-stop flights to Athens from there. Any chance AA adds MIA-ATH on a 788? Does the 788 have the legs to make it both directions? I actually don’t see a reason for ATH-MIA, neither for business nor for leisur...Jump to post
And they fly the A380 on one of their flights (the late flight if I checked correctly). Is BER even A380 capable? Or does the Mayor of Berlin Mr Müller want to continue the narrative of Klaus Wowereit on Berlin being "arm aber sexy"? Yes, the new BER airport has an A380 capable gate. Let'...Jump to post
What are the current bilateral limits between Germany and the UAE? As for Berlin, I would actually see Flydubai as more appropriate as a route starter, if the current bilateral is not maxed out. Bilateral allows only 4 destinations in Germany for UAE carriers, so EY / EK / FZ. Since EY and EK are a...Jump to post
CPT in winter would work very well fed by extensive European network and maybe some from North America. Red eye outbound and inbound as a day flight. Also don’t forget that some other carriers have reached their maximum of flights according to bilateral agreements, e.g. LH only has 1/7 left to CPT ...Jump to post
Have been there yesterday, coming from PVG and connecting to TXL. It is huge. But most surprisingly is that there are 50% of the shops still not open yet. The main lounge entrances are closed and you are forced to use the side entrances which are kind of hidden. And the lounges are huge too ... but ...Jump to post
This is part of Finnair business model. Instead of wasting money and time to compete with ANA and JAL, they just provide cheaper tickets which they know both ANA and JAL can't provide. You are aware that AY is in a JV with BA and JL, right ? Besides, fares for AY flights to any Japanese destination...Jump to post
Their business model is questionnable, their hub is a mess, both inside and out. The only thing they're useful for is for keeping their competitors honest. The position is good on paper alone. On a 9 hour red eye, you can't get any sleep and your feeding flight is long and on a RJ or narrowbody. Bu...Jump to post
They will lose tons of money on this. Mark my words. LOT announces new 5 weekly Delhi-Warsaw flights effective 17Sep using a B788. The flight schedule caters largely to EU traffic as only one way connections to North America exist. I agree, the flight times for connections in both directions are no...Jump to post
Since Lufthansa never cared about Berlin and developing it any further than hub-connections to FRA and MUC ... even cut EW routes to only a few domestic smaller cities and a handful EU destinations ... nobody of the airport management should give a d**n about a statement of a LH CEO in regards to BE...Jump to post
Although this thread was about US3 flights to Russia ... I have connected via SVO and DME many times on flights from EU to Asia and even Middle East. Both are modern airports, with nice lounges, nice staff etc. I’ve been to 8 cities in Russia so far, met helpful people at each of them. And generally...Jump to post
Maybe in the longterm: JU / Air Serbia ? And get it into OW as connecting partner later on ? They have a good network in Europe, especially the Balkan region, their product after EY got involved has improved very much. And last, maybe EY is happy to get rid of that last EU subsidiary sooner or later...Jump to post

Well, having lost CZ as member, only SkyTeam makes real sense, as HU and HX would add great connections at PEK and HKG to/from mainland China ... and not fear any objections from a strong CA in Star Alliance or a strong CX in OneWorld. Is Condor in trouble? :O I am flying them in a few weeks (short-haul). No, don’t worry ! Most people seem to assume that AZ's problems are costs. AZ staff are definitely not overpaid, the structure is lean, courtesy of previous restructurings. DL is the most profitable airline in the world with a competent management and the biggest rate of profit sharing with its staff. I suppose AY likes to keep the EU-China market to itself :-) But, having no local airline partner in OW is a problem. I think the question is whether some long-haul Euro/US carrier will fly to both airports. If there is one, I bet it would be Lufthansa from FRA. It makes no sense for LH / LX / OS to fly to ZBAD as they will only be able to offer connections via PEK on CA. One of the main reasons for continuing to ...Jump to post

Thanks for your replies. It is really weird to see that LO - although not being part of the LH/UA TATL JV - is more or less forced to collaborate with third parties (competitors) e.g. B6 rather than using the capabilities of UA being most logical (larger network, better re-booking options, *A partne...Jump to post

Why take over the business and the debts when you can just wait until it goes bellyup and buy the slots and aircraft that you want? Simply because if „it goes bellyup“ than ALL other airlines can apply for the then freed up slots and one would not get all of the desired slots for keeping the desire...Jump to post

Totally out of left field here....but partnership with Etihad. Etihad desperately needs a US-based partner and UA is probably the best fit. EY already flies to ORD and LAX. Since LH Technik is providing MRO services for various airlines, I’m sure the licenses are definitely not an issue. Why not purchase the aircraft and hire the crew - both available after the bankruptcy announcement. At least no big risk for LH since they know the product of their former wet-lease partner well.
