Seems like my company proves me wrong once again. 5 A350 will be based in FRA beginning the winter flight schedule. 4 active aircraft with one spare. Destinations to be determined, but Asian destinations more likely than North American. Big news for my home airport! That’s great news. Awesome to se...Jump to post
Somewhat different comments in FlightGlobal from Spohr re: 748's position in the fleet: Speaking on 25 September during the virtual World Aviation Festival, Lufthansa Group chief executive Carsten Spohr said the airline had also accelerated the phasing-out of 14 ageing 747-400s, moving the timefram...Jump to post
Nothing brand new but Spohr made some comments regarding the B748 and B744 fleet at the virtual World Aviation Festival yesterday. Quote translated from a german article at aero.de: Spohr made it clear that the Boeing 747-8 as Lufthansa's most efficient aircraft, which is also currently active, will...Jump to post
D-ABVR is on her way from FRA to LDE now
Another point to make is whether the German taxpayer is bailing out the airlines of other European countries, which is only beneficial to the Germans if those subsidiaries are profitable (and surely profitable airlines can obtain investment from the private sector?). D-ABVT on its way to LDE for retirement
Seems that D-ABVR, D-ABVT and D-ABVU will be next to leave the LH fleet and make their final journeys from FRA to LDE next week. What does that leave LH with? D-ABTL is on her last journey from FRA to ENS now:
LH is sending 2 744 to ENS this week for retirement:
D-ABTL from FRA
D-ABVO from PEK
So the fleet will be down to 11.
Does anyone know more about why they took off the engines or maybe even the registration? According to my notes it is 747-8 D-ABYF. I don't know why they took them off. It is D-ABYF indeed. That is surprising. Is LH flying the 747s for cargo mostly, or what's going on? Used on repatriation flights I believe. It would seem that some regular scheduled commercial flights like GRU or HND are maintained as well, albeit with lower weekly frequency. They’re currently deployed on 3 regular sc...Jump to post
There's definitely potential for a fleet reduction, though. A weak economy may make such routes unviable to begin with; on the other hand some routes that used to be served with B744 or B748 may not have the traffic anymore and could be downgauged to the A343 ( example: FRA-KIX or FRA-EZE). Don’t k...Jump to post

I also followed the empty flight from D-AIHB to Manila on FR24 this week.
