I don't find any difference in soft product between them, Volaris, and Viva. Actually, I prefer Volaris because GDL is a much more tolerable transfer than MEX. Guadalajara is a pleasant city, too.

Japan's worthy of all of your vacation time - particularly if you haven't been - so I'd just recommend PHL-DOH-Japan. Perhaps you could check out Doha.

Why does this continue to happen? How often are non-American carriers crippled by computer failures? I’ve lived in China for 5 years and I’ve never heard of a Chinese airline grinding to a halt due to a computer glitch. Don't worry, the Chinese military makes up for the "lack" of glitches

Flew through MEX on Sunday connecting up to PDX.... Man, that is one tired and packed airport. New one can't come soon enough - no matter where it is! Sounds like you're describing T1. My first 747 flight was in the summer of 2000, SQ from LAX to NRT. Although I was mostly distracted by the Super Nintendo port, at one point I got to see the cockpit, which was rad.

I've gotten a few rando' upgrades, but the one that stands out was for simply filling out a frequent flier membership application for Etihad. The leg was AUH-CGK, so it was quite the treat.

Looking post-modern (see: more and more Chinese airports) does not a pleasant experience make. ICN is a vastly overrated hub. The security area is tight, smoke from the smoking "lounges" regularly seeps out, seating is scarce, and post-security food options are a let-down-- while on my way...
