Well you have the hourly CrossCountry trains which travels from Birmingham to Stansted, via Leicester and Peterborough. The only snag is this service is notorious for delays.

ARN is horrible for international/non-Schengen to domestic/Schengen connections and vice versa. It is cramped, long-winded, as you are basically completely checking out and then checking in of the airport and with insufficient space in airport security.

The most interesting thing about the BIOD affair is the Chagossians are not actually against the Americans being in Diego Garcia. Many just want to head back to DG and still fish from the waters around the islands while working there using the base as a supplement to their income.
