Re: Married Delta Pilots Fly Together, Retire Together?

Well I thought this was going to be a positive thread. Unfortunately it turned bad pretty quickly. I've chatted with Joe and Margrit and they're both good people, and very skilled pilots. I've asked both questions about flying, Delta, and the A330 in particular and they've always been happy to chat ...

Re: IAI Launches 777-300ER converted freighters with GECAS

Aww man! I was hoping to get a photo of a 77W with a big old door cut in the side of it! Guess we'll all have to wait until 2021 for that. The conversion hasn't even started. This flight was carried out for structural testing. N557CC will return to TLV. Oh, ok. That's what I assumed, but wasn't sure...

They can't seem to get the livery right, and I think that comes from the expectation attached to the "Eastern" name. This carrier would have so much more potential with its own identity.

Re: 777 - 25 years in commercial service

I've flown on the 777 three times, but all three were great flights. April 1998. UA 772 LAX-IAD. I marveled at the sound of those PW4084s and how we seemed to "sprint" down runway 25R on takeoff. April 2002. AA 772 LAX-MIA. 2-5-2 interior and those lovely Trent 800s. Nice smooth flight wit...

Re: A DL 772, Flying LAX-PVG, Makes Emergency Landing And Dumps Fuel On School

No one here seems to be mentioning the similarities of this to PR113, which was only a few short weeks ago. Differences are that the Philippines crew did(?) dump only over the ocean and still performed a very heavy landing, thus damaging the aircraft and forcing it to be out of service for about a m...

I heard a series of very loud bangs. Even more impressive is I was on the north side of the airport and she departed 25R. Glad everyone is ok. One of the more unusual sounds I've heard in my years around airplanes.

Re: GECAS and IAI to build 777-300ER Cargo Conversion

This will be a great option in about 5 years when airlines flying early build 747-400BCFs are ready for something new. I think anyone who doesn't need the front loading capabilities of the 747 would definitely be interested in this, but it all depends on $$$. 747s can be had for very cheap, and GE90...

Re: Norwegian to cancel all TATL MAX routes

I feel for this airline. Between the RR Trent issues they face with their 787 fleet, and the MAX groundings, it is a financial miracle they are still operational. They quickly became Hi-Fly's favorite customer. I really hope they stick around long enough for the impending class-action case against R...

Re: A380 NEO Proposal

The A380's problems cannot be solved with reengaging it. Its problem is how many engines it has. It would've been a vastly more successful program if 2000s engine tech was where it is now. A 2-engined GE9X powered A380 might've had more looks from more airlines.

Re: Why didn’t Delta or United order the 747-8?

I would say a combination of factors: -The 747-8i came out after UA already had a substantial 777-200ER fleet, orders for the Dreamliner and 777-300ER, and plans to retire the 747-400 -As mentioned earlier, Delta thrives on versatility and didn't want a small fleet of VLAs -Then where are the obviou...

Re: 2 Spicejet and Air India overruns as monsoon rains hit

Does the 737 have a higher approach speed than thew A320? Whenever I see them land they do appear to come in faster, with a more shallow flare, and they more often than not float down the runway a bit before touching down.

Re: Inference: BA may acquire 6 x A380 ex-LH

I flew on a BA A380 7 months ago LHR-LAX and it was a full airplane. If that was any indication of how the rest of BA's A380 flights are going out, then the justification for adding more to the fleet, especially at a "no one else wants em" discount.

Re: More Point-to-Point The Path Forward?

Hub & spoke became threatened years ago when planes designed connect hubs (757, 767, A320, and737NG)became able to bypass them. I don't really see us heading back that way. Case in point, I can now fly LAX-BCN direct on a Dreamliner vs flying through LHR and potentially losing my luggage at T5 a...

Re: Airbus seeks to break Boeing/AIG deal

I always said Boeing needed a big show of confidence in the MAX to get it back on track, either in the form of Southwest, Ethiopian, or Lion Air being willing to fly it again first, or a big order. Looks like the received the latter first. And Airbus is just being Airbus. A competitor is never satis...
