Both were strong because neither had any other US competition. Since both mostly funneled flights through NRT I guess you could say JAL was there primary competition or maybe KE funneling pax through ICN. Remember in this era the Chinese carriers were pretty much non-existent.

Could you reference the data for the A359 fuel burn with a load of 25T? From two samples for the latest airframes(difficult to find more as the payload carried is usually much higher than 25t) - 5.6t/hr over 13.5 hours. Thanks, this helps. It is the same. The A350-900 MTOW is 10% heavier than the 787-9 (280T vs 254T). The A350-900 has 7.5% more span (64.75m 60.12m) The 777-8 MTOW is 11% heavier than the A358-1000 (351T vs 316T).
