Re: Airlines launch ‘flights to nowhere’

With fares so low, you could take a kid or grandchild for a plane ride for $150-200 ( or just yourself). Depending on your local airport,
out and back same day easy, Could rent a car and do sightseeing as well.

For Eastern, the range was perfect for the many northeast cities to Florida.
As for widebody feel, my first A300, PHL-MIA seemed like a big 727 vs a little L-1011. It just didn't
feel heavy.

In 1968 I flew Pan AM JFK-LHR-FRA-IST. At least it was direct vs connection, and most seats were full, but, but many psgrs got off while new ones got on keeping us pretty full all the way.About half deplaned in IST, I dont know how many new psgrs there were.

A possible reason for the decline in pax at EWR is more flights from cities that now have N/S. It is a triple perfect storm. AA fortress, EWR fares, and leakage. eg Princeton Univ is equidistant between PHL and EWR, an hour plus drive. In any other area that university would be mentioned as an airport draw. It doesn't even get an afterthought for PHL traffic. etc, etc, etc
